Angry time change messes up appointments/birthdays/holidays

I searched to no avail..

I just noticed that after the time change either the phone or outlook has messed with all my appointments/birthdays/holidays in a wierd way. For some reason (i checked forward to next year and its the same) during non daylight savings time like right now all of the above start the day before at 11pm, and end the day of at 11pm. When i click on the appoitnment to change the series, it says

"Occurs every 'monthx dayx effective xx/x/2005 (GMT-07:00) Arizona."

..., my time zone is pacific!! im in Los Angeles and im not sure why it would do this. any ideas? ???

the time zone set in my computer is pacific, the phone is pacific, and in outlook is pacific. no idea what the deal is here... thanks

ive attached a picture to show how it looks in outlook..

Bo

One tip I can provide is to set your reminders, holidays, etc., on your phone and not in Outlook. I had some problems with that as well and found out that creating the events on the phone compared to Outlook solved the problem. Addtionally, I noticed that Halloween was set in a time format as opposed to a day format. You notice all the clock icons next to the holidays? These are not timed holidays, but rather..."all day events." Try this with the holidays:

Subject: Halloween
Location: (Leave Blank)
Starts: All day recurring
Ends: All day recurring
All day: Yes
Occurs: Every October 31
Reminder: None (Unless you want a reminder.)
Categories: Holiday
Attendees: No attendees...
Status: Free (Unless you are not free.)
Sensitivity: Normal

For Thanksgiving, since the date will be different every year...try this:

Subject: Thanksgiving
Location: (Blank)
Starts: All day recurring
Ends: All day recurring
All Day: Yes
Occurs: < Edit pattern...> (For this, click on "Edit Pattern", click on "Yearly", and enter the fourth Thursday of November--->Click "Next" and make sure "Does not end" is selected and click "Finish").
Reminder: None (Unless you want one.)
Categories: Holiday
Attendees: No attendees...
Status: Free (Unless you are not free.)
Sensitivity: Normal

Then sync to your PC.

Try that and see if it works.

Another tip I can maybe suggest, is don't use Outlook to add holidays. I know it has the option somewhere to add all the holidays to your calendar. The problem is, it doesn't do it correctly. It does it by time, instead of by day...which is why you are seeing the clocks appearing next to your holidays (unless you programmed the times and not made the events "all day events" on your PPC). Outlook screws it all up, which is kind of unbelievable. Enter the holidays manually the way I described above, and that should eliminate the problem you are having.

Hope that helps.

What's difficult and hard to do? I have had no issues and I also live in a "Daylight Savings Time" State. I have set all my holidays and events that take place every year for every month one time. After that, it's programmed and will go into effect every year thereafter.

This really isn't rocket science.

Hope that helps.

This is also because you set them with a Start and End time, not because you made them on your phone or in Outlook. Anytime you make an appointment with a start time before midnight and an end time after midnight it will go to the next day.

If you make an All Day Appointment, like a birthday or holiday on the phone you need to set the All Day to Yes. This will then make the appointment all day, instead of a start and end time.

Now I don't know why you added the birthday's to the calendar or holiday's to the calendar from the phone, as Outlook automatically does it for you. For birthday's, add the person's birthday to your contact and it automatically adds it every year to the calendar.

Holidays. From Outlook click Tools, Options, then on the first tab (Preferences) click Calendar Options. In the middle of the options window is a button that says, Add Holidays... You click it and you can add holidays from just about ANY region.

No reason to do it manually when Outlook does it automatically, and it transfers over automatically with Activesync.

I think I addressed the above statement already.

As I was trying to explain here, OUTLOOK does not do it correctly. It adds the holidays by times, not as all day events. I have done this and already went through the hoopla with Outlook, so I said 'f' it and entered all the holidays manually as all day events on my PPC. That eliminated the problem.

??? You never entered the holiday and event information? Only in the contacts, i.e., notes section or elsewhere in the contact information?

I told you that OUTLOOK screws it all up when you add the holidays through that. Are you using Office XP with Outlook? That is what I'm using and I just added a new "TEST" Contact and entered a hypothetical birthday. I synced and the new contact appeared in my contacts. I went to the calendar to the day I made the birthday in the contact information and nothing was there. Sorry dude, but I don't know what to tell you here...your phone and/or OUTLOOK is possessed or something.

Hopefully, you have a good backup and can do a Restore and start from the beginning. I don't think the time zone would have an effect since I'm in EST and have to adjust for Daylight Savings Time too.

Try the backup and Restore and see if that eliminates the problem. If not, call Verizon Tech Support and maybe they can help you. However, in my past dealings with them...it seems that the members of this forum are more knowledgable about the phone than they are.

Sorry I couldn't help you any further.

If you don't have a good backup, unfortunately, you will have to go through them manually. Just make sure to tap "No" to edit the entire series and DELETE AWAY. You should only have to do this for the current year, since any future holidays and/or events SHOULD be deleted as well by selecting "No".

heres my logic about the arizona time zone by the way:

during daylight savings time, arizona time and pacific time are the same, and the appointments/holidays are all "all day" no-clock nonsense in the phone. during NON daylight savings time, arizona doesnt change their clocks like everyone else, therefore making us 1 hour behind arizona. it seems like for some reason the phone wants all of the appointments to start arizona time always, which is 1 hour before pacific, or 11pm the day before.

Now why it is doing this is beyond me....

Bo

I think I just figured out your problem...I have this under recurrence: (GMT-04:00) Try that time zone instead, since we are always adjusting for Daylight.
