Might put more information in your original question then, since Google now has many different services and not just a search engine, as we all thought you were talking about the search side.
Here are some links to find out information on Java for the Pocket PC:
That will get you started on the Java side, and that might enable that site to work. You also might try a different web browser than Pocket IE, try Opera or NetFront, they have better support for plugins.

I noticed you mentioned Opera and I have been trying to find for quite a while now whether Opera is available for i730. Back a while ago there was a fuss between Opera and Verizon about "certificates" (I suppose this is code for a security protocol of sorts). At that time (about 3 months ago) there was no Opera support for any of the Verizon smartphones. Has that been fixed for the pocket PCs?
i tried to get this to work today but couldnt. there is mention that it doesnt work on Verizon currently. there might be a non straightforward way to get it to work, but i dont think there is an easy way to get it to work yet.

I wondered if the reason it didn't work for Verizon was the whole java versus BREW thing. I could be wrong, but I was hoping with a javaVM it might work.
I'll download the VM and see if I have anyluck, but I'm not holding my breath.
I couldn't get this to work by downloading the generally recommended IBM JVM/personal profile.
However, this will work if instead of using the personal profile you use the IBM MIDP, which you can purchase for $6 from Handango (i've heard you can get this for free somewhere).
Download this and install it. Restart your i730 and go to the mobile.google.com/glm site (from your Pocket IE on the i730) and follow the directions as if you had an audiovox smt5600.
You can then launch the mobile app from the MIDlet HQ which appears in your Start menu.
probably...the name is close, but not quite the same. The Handango download includes both windows and linux versions. These are about 42 MB each, so I'd give the one you found a try.
Originally posted by johntchow cool ill give it a try. i think you can download it for free directly from ibm's site, but you have to register with them:
is it this file? cause its listed at 42MB on IBM's website...
WebSphere Everyplace Micro Environment 5.7.2 - MIDP 2.0 for Windows Mobile 2003 2nd Edition
weme-wm2003-arm-midp20-5.7.2-P-20050304-1743.exe
johntchow, where you able to download the file ? I just registered with IBM, clicked your link above, filled out some BS questionaire, then IBM tells me that they need to review my request. WTF ?

bbelhumeur, did you try this with the trial software or just purchase the 1 license copy ? Downloading the trial now, but its 86 MBs, so its taking a awhile. Would like to (1) know if its worth it, and (2) I assumed you installed this to your SD card.
wallst, i think you downloaded the wrong file... it shoudl only be 42MB. and i did have to register but i didnt have to wait. i was able to download immediately.
make sure you download:
Description: WebSphere Everyplace Micro Environment 5.7.2 - MIDP 2.0 for Windows Mobile 2003 2nd Edition
The file is about halfway down the page where it lists all the available downloads. Without looking very closely at what you are downloading it is very easy to download something different
even though the download from IBM says its a trial i think its a full functioning version with no limitations. also, its a large file to download but the install on i730 is relatively small. less than 2MB and I put it in safestore.
well if you install the IBM environment it installs a program on your i730 called MIDlet HQ. you have to run that program to launch Google Local.
when you start MIDlet HQ it shows all the apps you have availble that it can launch. for me, Google Local is the only java based applet I got so it only shows that. you just click on launch.
im not sure of a quick shortcut to directly launch google local using MIDlet.
