looking 4 help with vpn client... willing 2 pay

well.. unfortunately it has come 2 this. i use sonicwall global vpn on the pocket pc and on the i730 it locks up BT ans WIFI where they are unusable. Sonicwall blames samsung and verizon blames sonicwall. anyone interested in seeing if they can get the client installed and tweaked to where bt and wifi still work? i at this point got my employer to pay for a fix as this is hindering me when i am off site. let meknow...

sarcasmsra?? i am hoping this is up your alley.

I will give this a try tomorrow. Been meaning to do it anyway.

*IF* I have success, no $, just pay it forward.

Apani VPN Client for Cisco.

So i got the demo of this yesterday to try it on Penn State's vpn secured wireless network... It installs and runs ok, but it causes the wifi and bluetooth to stall both on and off and invokes some h/w messages... removed it, everything back to normal... I haven't heard of or found a vpn client works flawlessly and isn't $99 - anthavpn ...(apani is $40 btw)

yeah... apparently it isnt completely client specific.. I'm pretty disappointed with these vpn clients that are out... anyone know of one that doesn't lock up the bt/wifi?

i am thinking the problem lies with the samsung. i used 2 different vpn clients on my old h6315 and on a 5550 ipaq and never had an issue. that leads me to think the issue is with the actual i730 and some driver\configuration issue.

but thats just my opinion.

So...I'm guessing noone yet has a solution to getting the sonicwall pocket global vpn client, or some other compatible vpn client, working on the i730?

I gave up on this a few months ago after struggling with it for some time to no avail (same WiFi and BT issues, and couldn't find any other client that would work either) but figured I'd just check in to see if anything had changed on this front....

I wish I would have searched for this earlier, but my dad just bought one of these phones vs. the WM5 devices for the sole purpose of using the SonicWall client. Anyone since December have any luck with this?

Unfortunately not. I have played with other clients and my sonicwall to see if I could get them to work. I got one to establish a connection but it wouldnt authenticate. Pain in the ass.

I have tried all 4 releases of the sonicwall pocket pc client with no luck. It is definately specific to this device.

I called sonicwall and they blamed it on the device. (Rightfully so) Anyway.. thats where I am at. I would pay decent money for someone to get this to work!!!

Possible VPN Solution

I haven't used a Sonicwall VPN. Is it an IPsec solution? If so, I've had good experiences with the NCP client. (www.ncp.de) I have both an i730 and a 700w, and connect to a Cisco PIX with no problem, both EVDO and WiFi... (I use the Palm 802.11b card on the 700w). I don't have specific configuration for Sonicwall, but their tech support is pretty helpful...

VPN Solution for Samsung I730 that doesnt crash BT and WIFI

Hello All!!!

I just wanted to let you know of an alternative to Sonicwalls CE client. I have spent the last week working on getting the NCP client to work with our Sonicwall systems at work, and as of today successfully got the client connected and authenticated where I can easily access my network resources from my Samsung I730.

I have had a thread for quite some time offering $$$ for someone to get the Sonicwall CE Client to work on the I730... but got tired of waiting and dedicated some time to get it up and running. (Sonicwalls CE client crashed wifi and BT on the Samsung I730 and neither VZW or Sonic wanted to try and get a fix)

I am sure this product will work with many other vpn products, such as Cisco. My specialty is Sonicwall....

The website is www.ncp.de They are based in the Netherlands, so tech support via phone is pricey!!! But PM Me and I would be glad to pass my experience in getting this to work.

Steve

Steve,

After upgrading to WM5, i thought I would take a look at the available vpn clients again and found your thread here. I installed the demo, and it looks like it has the features I need, but I'm having a heck of a time getting it to pass phase 1 negotiations with my Netscreen firewall.

I know you are using SonicWall, but I am sure the setup for a preshare key VPN is similar. If you have any tips or write-ups you could pass along, I would really appreciate it.

Also, have you tested the NCP client with WM5 yet? I am sure the fact that I am on WM5 has nothing to do with my problems, but I did notice that after installing it, WIFI turns on automatically after every soft-reset. Now I have to figure out how to fix that....

Thanks,

Nathan

Hi Nathan,

I am using this successfully with WM5 and have NO issues at all. It took some time to get it set up, but works very well.

I would be willing to help. I think Netscreen uses the same auth methods as sonicwalls global vpn client. If that is the case then my settings would work for you as well.

Please PM me your following info

Authentication type? Local or Radius
DHCP for clients?
Phase 1 authentication type?
Phase 2 authentication type?
You said you are using a shared key?

Steve

Thanks... That post was from back in March. I got the link to work from home since then. I appreciate the help though.
