Attached is a utility called createports. The app is a run and exit app, so no memory besides it's storage will be used. After running the app, the necessary registry entries will be created that will allow apps to see COM2. This way for apps such as TomTom you can map an outgoing bluetooth port and configure it in TomTom. It does'nt matter whether you create the port first or run the app first. It is recommended to run it in your startup folder since, the registry entires have to be recreated at startup. If you run the app without mapping it in BT the port will show up in your app, but, will not do anything.

Funny it worked.....the last time!!Now I am not sure what was working before they put a hole in my head!!!!
forgive my ignorance, but what happens if you use TomTom and don't do this? I'm actually get On Course Navigator 5 on Tuesday, so do this also apply to it?
Just used Super Dave's utility to create COM2: and then link that to my EarthMate with BlueTooth Power Pack in Street Atlas 2005 Handheld edition. It worked like a charm.
The GPS software from Garmin (GPS10) either wants to use COM3 or COM9. Can I manipulate my registry to get to one of those COM ports. I do not use Wireless so I can free up COM3.
Hmmmm. Just a question, I was able to pair my BT GPS to the I730, then use the COM Ports tab that is built into the phone's BT to assign the new device to COM2 and everything worked fine (in Mapopolis). Does that not work for everyone that you need to use this app? It just seems the app's functionality is already built into the phone. Just wondering...
can i download the utility on my phone and put it into the startup folder? what i tried hasn't worked annd i need some help. i downloaded the utility using my phone onto the storage card. then i put the zip file on my laptop to open it up and when i put the exe file back on my phone and nothing happened. any suggestions?

But... It still only works for COM2 and COM7. How do I get addt'l COM ports on the i730? Can you modify CreatePorts to do that? PLEASE???
Originally posted by solsavr Will this also work with PocketMap Navigator? PMN seems to need COM 6
I GOT IT WORKING...What I needed to do was unpair all other BT devices, then I had to set up the INCOMING PORT to 007 FIRST, before I setup COM2 to Outgoing. (then I repaired all other devices)
If you do it the other way around, it will not work...
Ah...the familiar "chirp" of an acquired bird just sounded! Thanks Dave for the COM Utility!

I installed and ran createports on my i730. The preinstalled Pharos Ostia GPS navigation software was working before I installed createports. Now the program will not work at all. I have done master resets, formats, original backup, etc.
HELP SUPER DAVE, HELP !!! I want my GPS back. PLEASE.....
I have a BT headset and trying to get activesync over BT as well.
I can create the partnership, but when I choose sync via BT I get this error,""cannot start communications with the desktop computer. The Communications port is not available... etc.."
Will this program help? If not I will ask in appropriate thread (Can you direct me to which one).
I have tried to install the createport utility as well as a demo version of the VSPD Mobile Phone Edition 3.4.niether are installing properly. I have a Navman 4400,i am stuck at this comm port problem.what could I be doing wrong? I cannot believe I spent this much money on this GPS and I cant get it to work right out of the box. This is my first post on this forum and I have searched tirelessly for other solutions to my problem but these seem to be the only two fixes, and I cant get them to work.
Help I finally got two my Programs working with the Royaltek Gps on my I730 but I still can't get the Pocketmap to reconize any of the ports ,6,7 and I tried download the Create Ports exe but all I get when I tried to install it on my PocketPc is an error message that says. C:\Documents and Setting\Lynn Hammill\Local Settings\Temp\CreaterPorts.exe is not a balid Win32 application. I have xp on my computer would that make a difference. What went wrong I saved the program to the desk top should I have just run the program instead. PocketMap wont give access to any of the ports I need when I first got the pocketmap app I did an auto scan and it pick comport 6 and that was on the Audivox vx600 but when I got the I730 I no longer had the option for 6, on this unit nor 2 or 7 on the progam I do have 2 and 7 on the bt manger and did what the young man said about doing a bond and then picking an out going port for 2 and it work on my other programs because the allowed me to access both 2 and 7 on them the AstroNavigator and VitoNavigator but not the PocketMap, is there any other Utiltiy like Create a Port Exe
Lynn
It sounds like createport works but I cant figure out how to use it. I downloaded it and then put it in the start-up menu under windows on my i730. I click on it and nothing happens. Am I doing this right? Please help, I want to use my DeLorme software and GPS. Thanks.
