HOW TO: remove 1x or evdo icon.

This will completly remove the icon, you will not get any notification of the type. Copy a 0k file named datamodeicon.exe over the existing file in the windows dir.

You could also copy the datamodeicon.exe app to another name elsewhere. In case you wanted to run it and see the signal type.

Will that stop the bubble when there is only one other notification?

excuse my ignorance but could someone tell me why one would want to do this? Does it conserve power, or is it just an asthetic thing?

i know i am a dummy so here goes:

1x/evdo icon actually tells me what? that it is switching between the two sometimes?

if i remove it then i wont know what connection type i have? or will it just show 1x or ev? and free up space for vm or missed call?

THANKS!

How do I copy a file over that file in the Windows directory? When I attempt to do this, I get an "Access is Denied" error. I'm using File Explorer to Copy and Paste the files. Is there another way?

Send a message via AIM to johntchow

turn the phone radio off first then do what SD says...

i first turned the radio off. then create a blank text file called datamodeicon.txt and then renamed it to datamodeicon.exe and then copied it over.

turn the phone radio back on and voila!

Hey Nobody... just a guess, but try turning off your phone and resetting, then copying over it. If you don't reset, the exe (icon) may still be considered in use by the system. I would guess that restarting with the phone off would preclude the system trying to access that exe.

Still no joy. "Access is denied. Make sure that the disk is not full or write-protected and the file is not currently in use." I turned the phone off and reset the device by the bottom button with the stylus, then used File Explorer to copy and paste the file. I get the error when I try to paste.

Use Total Commander to copy the files, and once you have make sure you soft-reset.

Googling: total commander pocketpc

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...ander+pocketpc

Gives you this link:

http://www.ghisler.com/pocketpc.htm

Where you see an overview of this application, which provides enhanced file management capabilities compared to the built-in file manager (which has many limitations).

No problem.

Hey, if you want a personalized avatar, I put one together for you.

www.workingware.com/castlehill.jpg

That's the place, right? We visit there every year or two when we go to Newport for the boat show. It is one of my in-law's favorite places.

BTW, that picture was clipped from a larger one I took a few days after 9/11. We decided to go to the boat show despite the current events of the time. It helped get our minds off it a little. We live in the immediate NYC area and CT.
