dave with this mode.. have you tried to see if you can just set it to
1x only. this would help out so if your in a weak EVDO area.. you
can just set it to 1x and no more dancing.

Yeah, I have. I only have 1x here so I can't really test it. But, thats what it is supposed to do.

sweet just tried it. let see if it only works on 1x.

Great.. just did a bandwith test just to make sure.. defintely only
getting 1x speeds in an EVDO area. wonder if this saves on
battery life. hrmmm

now 2 things I have to memorize..

Could us EVDOers set it to EVDO and not have the "drop to 1X and not get calls" problem go away?

Remember when you do a PRL updates this will revert back to the "setting" VZW wants it to run..so make sure you go back and redo these codes again...........I have had this happen to me very often and not to leak out any VZW secrets here...........oh boy I know I am toast now......

Funny it worked.....the last time!!Now I am not sure what was working before they put a hole in my head!!!!

OK, not 100% sure, but it looks like SMS and voicemail alerts seemed to be inhibited when I switched from hybrid to EVDO.

Anyone know why that would be? Are those sent only over 1X?

I am in NYC, and right around chelsea area, hybrid mode goes to 1x and verizon data cards also go to 1x instead of EVDO like the rest of the city. So I put the phone in EVDO mode, and data does work, but I don't receive any phone calls. Anybody experiences the same?

Looks like **HYBRID does not do anything on the phone I am using ( Pre Production version ) it just makes a ringing sound and does not show anything. However **PATH works fine. Is there something else have to do in conjunction with **HYBRID?

I recall hearing that on early (pre-prod) models, there was a menu available to set hybrid/1X/EVDO - you did not have to resort to the hidden option. Check your control panel and other phone setting areas - I think you have the same thing, just unhidden (or pre-hidden, as it were).

thanks dave. I forgot about that page. I had seen it awhile ago.

I just tried EVDO only and when in that mode I can not receive voice calls. The phone doesn't ring.

edit -- previous response was probably accurate, but I just realized svt was probably reporting something else.

svt, I think you might be saying that you do not get calls even when you do not have an active data connection. I think others have reported that as well, so I just tried it. When set to EVDO only, my phone does not get calls. Switching to Hybrid, it does. Back to EVDO, no go. Back to Hybrid, it rings. I figured I would try it a few times to make sure it was not a fluke.

So... EVDO only = no incoming calls on my phone.

EVDO does not carry voice traffic.
