i have some contacts on my old computer in outlook 2002 how do i copy that contact file from outlook and move it to my new computer so i can use active sync and get the contacts on the i730.
should i install active sync on the old computer and transfer just the contacts or can i copy a file from the old computer then drop the contacts onto the new computer and then just actuve sync?
Originally posted by harleyxlc Might be easiest to just export your contacts from the old Outlook and import them into the new. AS would be an answer, too, as you suggested.
thanks for the response. what would i export the contact as?
Assuming you have a new version of Outlook with data that you don't want to mess up. The menu examples are from Outllok 2003, so yours may be slightly different.
1. I the new Outlook, create a temporary new contacts folder. This is where you will import.
2. Go to the old Outlook and export as csv to a place that you remember. Outlook as a wizard to walk you through this.
3.if oou want to check, you should be able to open this file in Notepad or Excel and see your contacts.
4. Go to the new Outlook and choose import and the new folder. Once you have all of your contacts there, you can just drag them to the default Contacts folder and they will sync per your sync settings.
Using the temporary folder means that if the import goes poop, you are messing up your existing contacts. if you are really worried, Outlook stores most items in a PST file (assuming you are not on Exchange). With Outlook closed, you could backup this file, but it shouldn't be necessary.
