About a year ago I had to replace my phone and made a claim with the insurance company that Verizon works with. I had to call in and tell them what happened, they charged me a deductible, and about 48 hours later I had my new phone. Simple. I have the insurance for my i730 too. Well worth it.

My experience with the Kyo 7135 is a 24 hour turnaround for getting you a new(refurb) phone, with a mailer included to return the broken phone. If you do not have insurance, you'll have to pay full retail price for whatever replacement phone you have.
IMHO - the insurance is worth the monthly price on a $700 phone.
Yes. I was on a team building event riding go carts with the phone in my pocket. (stupid I know) but figured the screen was protected. Got out of the car and the screen was cracked and trashed. Phone died about 1 hour later. Called asurion and they said I was covered and the phone is on backorder. Well I am at a week later and they are still on backorder without any date of getting them in. They said I could get a different model, but I don't want that. I might call and ask if I can order a new one and have them pay for it. We will see. Hope this helps. They are nice, but seem to be backordered quite often.

Are you refering to a backorder of the samsung i730 or the Treo 650?
I have had to replace my phone with the insurance a couple of times. They only let you do it twice in 1 year I believe. The deductible is $50 and they usually send you a phone relatively fast. I have experienced some screw ups in the past where they sent me the wrong phone model, but they eventually corrected it.
Someone correct me if I am wrong but I believe all the phones they send out are refurbished models?
I am refering to Asurion and the I730. They said they are waiting for the manufacturer to send them a shipment. I think they only do refurbs after the phone has been out a while but I am not sure. It has been a week though and I am not expecting it anytime next week either
Lockline just replaced my wife's Samsung I600 after the phone stumbled down the stairs! LOL! When I spoke with them I let them know that only the phone was damaged and not the extras. They sent me a new (refurb I assume) phone in the box with all the extras that you get as if you walked out of the Verizon store. Well worth every penny!!!
I know if you lost a phone you have to have a police report because you can't send them one back and can get a phone for $50. If it is broken you have to send it back to them
I just learned the hard way that Verizon has two insurance plans: Wireless Protection Plan (WPP) and Total Equipment Coverage (TEC). WPP is $5/month, TEC is $6/month.
TEC is WPP plus the "Verizon Wireless Extended Warranty program", which, IMHO, it's not worth the extra $12/year given that the phone is already covered by Warranty, and if it stops working after a year it's probably not a manufacturing defect, but an issue covered by the insurance (WPP) part of the plan.
I'm pretty sure that VZ store reps are spiffed well to sell the higher plan (the extended warranty program is probably 80% pure profit), since I ended up with it when I upgraded to the i730, even though I had WPP on the old phone and I told the rep that I wanted to "continue the insurance". I was also lied to by him, who said that I needed the more expensive plan for the new phone; a web search and a call to *611 fixed the issue.
So, if you have TEC for $6/month, you might consider saving yourself $12/year and getting WPP instead.
Incidentally, Lock\Line is my carrier (it's regional as to whether you get Lock\Line or Asurion) and in a past experience a few years ago (lost phone in cab and never returned) they were extremely efficient and sent a replacement phone overnight; as someone else said, $72/year+$50 deductivble for a $700 phone is a decent deal.
Re: WPP vs. TEC
WPP is insurance and not an extended warranty. Like your car insurance it doesn't cover maintenance.
TEC is insurance plus an extended warranty.
With WPP if you drop or lose your phone you're covered. But if it wears out, or the buttons don't work, etc. you're not covered. If you had TEC you would be covered.
Which plan, if either, to get? How long will you keep your phone, and what will it cost to replace it?
I'm not aware of another source for i730's. If you needed to replace it and were not signing up for a new plan, VZW will charge you the full list price for the phone. Cha Ching!!!
Wear and tear is not covered by a warranty: only manufacturing defects are. So if you wear your buttons out or scrape it, you're paying for their replacement (if you want to replace them) even if you are under warranty (original or extended).
Hold on.. Wait a minute.. So TEC, would cover anything like phone reception not good, drop calls? that's more like a warrnty issue.. I had both Insurance and Warrnty on my nextel phones.. boy they are great, every time my phone goes wrong, they would replace it.. (I can't comment on the phone thta they replaced though.. They look new, but it's a obvious refurb ones, cuz the buttons and some time the camera on my phone would not work). but how does this apply to verizon wireless? if you have the TEC, they would just replace the phone at their store? or they still have to sent in your phone to get it repaired free of charge?

Cosmetic or functional? Here's a quote from Verizon's website about TEC: "If your phone or accessories are inoperable for any reason—lost, stolen, damaged or malfunctioning . . ."

That's a correct statement for TEC, since it includes WPP, which by itself covers all of those things...

From experience I can tell you that WPP by itself specifically does not include "all of those things."
We've replaced multiple Verizon phones over the years via Asurion. Like auto insurance, they will only replace the phones for which you have a valid insurance claim. Under a WPP claim Asurion specifically will not replace a phone for which you have a maintenance claim - e.g. it just stopped working, keypad is inoperable, display doesn't work, etc., unless those symptoms were a result of the insurance claim.
The phone that is registered on Verizons site with its ESN is the phone that is covered at the time. So if you swap phones on the weekend like us old I700 users would do (sometimes) and your I730 is lost while not a registered ESN your out of luck. When you change the ESN it needs to update etc.
The insurance plan was one of the best parts of Verizon, the rest wasn't so great. But I did get an I700 replaced $50 deductable and no hassles.
i got my WPP INSURANCE with a new VX9400 then about two months later i bought a lg dare from my friend and activated on my line. since my dare in on my line does my WPP insurance cover my dare if it is broken?
