PC Anywhere (or the like) on the i730?

I'm looking for a way to "troubleshoot" my computers/servers which are housed in several different locations, via my i730. Is there some software that will allow me to do that?

Thanks,
Mike

Sure. It's built right iin. The Terminal Services Client can connect to XP Remote Desktop (and I assume TS on other OS versions).

Do a google search for "VNC PPC" and you'll find some VNC clients for PPC that should work. This program is more of a PCAnywhere type setup where you are actually interfacing with the desktop of the remote system instead of starting a background desktop like Terminal Services. Just depends on what you need.

Keep in mind that if the computers you want to control are behind a firewall, you will also need a VPN with a client for the PPC. Another option is to subscribe to Gotomypc. This does not require that you install software on the PPC (it's downloaded to it).

LogMeIn works great

You could also use LogMeIn (www.logmein.com). It is a "GoToMyPC" like application, but it is free. They have a PPC version, also free.

It only seems to work with IE, not the Picsel Browser.

This isn't true at all.. having a VPN would be nice for security, but its not necessary.. If you do run a VPN you will need a VPN client to connect to your network.. Keep in mind not all clients are created equal so getting a VPN up with stock software (does PPC even have a VPN client?) can be a pain..

Some General Thoughts...

If you've got a Cisco PIX, the NCP VPN Client works great.

Once inside, controlling servers can be accomplished by the Terminal Server Client, but MS made a "deal with the devil" (Citrix) and haven't updated the features... Pretty poor...

pcAnywhere has a really good client with zoom capability.

Yes... I dont see why you dont just GET pcanywhere.. It is the best for what you are looking for. Version 11.5 has the most amazing remote computer management for Pocket PC that I have ever seen. I recommend it 100%.

how does the TSC work? When I press it , it asks for a server name. I run xp on a home desktop computer.

Yep. logmein.com ROCKS. Its FREE. Only think can't do is transfer files (actually you can do that too but for that you have to pay).

I gave up on built in stuff in XP cause some of the machines (five I control now through logmein) didn't have XP professional - only XP home. (I think you have to have XP Pro to use terminal server and/or remote destop assistance...are those the same thing? If not plz reply and let me know).

Anyway logmein.com works great for my needs - certainly right price and works fine on my new sammy even at 1x speeds.

Pc Anywhere is end user software.. Admins use either Citrix, terminal services or VNC.. (on win anyway).. PcAnywhere is bloated with features, its slow and doesn't play to nicely in most environments.. I personally feel its security is suspect.

Guys, I am amazed at logmein.com.

How great it works.

Especally if you turn the screen landscape and adjust the zoom down.

Very usable!

I'm not having luck running accessing logmein from my 730. Is there anything special you had to do to get it to work in PIE?

I could be more clear. I want to connect via TCP/IP to a Mac fileserver to upload and download. Is that possible:

* over CDMA connection

* over wi-fi
