It can only be initated by you. So you call someone. Push the talk button once, dial the second number, then once that person answers push the talk button again and you should be in conference call. I don't think there is a way to receive a call then put it into 3 way. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

The problem is when I push the send button when I am in the call it gives me this long beeping tone and does not allow me to make the conference call... Is there a difference between pushing the physical send button versus the talk button on the screen?

Maybe, I never touch the screen unless absolutely neccessary. But I also have an XV6600 and now we are talking hardware. I try to use the hardware button as much as possible.
I guess try the hardware button first and if that doesn't work maybe something is wrong with 3 way call on the i730. Anyone Else been able to get it to work on the i730?
should be no difference. if you want to bring someone in on a conference, just tap the send button or whatever its calaled on the i730, you should hear a dial tone. dial the number.. once you connect to the line (when it starts ringing), you can then tap the send button again to connect the person on hold.
now all this is assuming verizon includes 3 way calling as standard.. which im sure they do... there is nothing else you need to do... its that simple...
I make a call on my i730. If I push the green/send button or press the "Talk" on-screen buton, I get a two-tone beep that sounds bad -- no dial tone. If I wait a few seconds I get back to my original call.

Anyone know how to make 3-way calling work???
Isn't that two tone beep the one that occurs when the system cannot get service Could there be a system load problem? Maybe time of day dependent? Will roaming or off network disable that feature?
While you're on a call, choose a contact and dial it. It will automatically put the current call on hold and dial the other one. When connected to the second call, push talk again and it will connect them. But here is the problem. Push talk again and it will connect to one of the calls, I believe the first one. Push it again and it will connect to the second one. There is no way to disconnect one of them and stay on the call with the other.
Also, I don't think there is a way to link the calls if you RECEIVE both of the calls. Considering the "sophistication" of this device, I can't believe that such a simple feature was left out. Here is something for one of the third party software makers to work on.
From my previous experience with Verizon, you will get charged double ($ or minutes) during peak hours (one charge for each call). Non-peak hours are free. However, you may want to double check on Verizon's website or call customer service.
1. Make OR recieve call...doesn't matter...as long as you have an active call in progress...
2. Dial Second Number....hit send...screen or hard button....you will put the original call on hold, and you should now be on the phone with the second party....
3. If you hit send one more time, you will conference the calls...
4. Now, if you want to hang up, press end...ends the call, both of them...
5. If you want to hang up the second call ONLY, press talk...this will disconnect the second(conferenced) call...
**NOTE: If you want to conference immediately, press send again as soon as you hear the ringing on the second call...also, it DOES charge you double minutes...starting from the point of the second call...also, RB73 is right, you cannot conference if the SECOND call is recieved....
Hope this helps...

i apologize if this has been posted before and I assume it might be since it is a common question. I need to call two people and conference with them ASAP - how do I do his on my i730?
while on a call, look up the contact u want to call, or dail the number, then hit talk, then once u hear the ring, hit talk again...all should be connected
what if I want to disconnect one of the calls? For example, when I call one person and want to make another call and then want to switch back and forth. What if I want to disconnect only one party? these are all standard features of most mobile phone and I cant find them on the i730.
This 'feature' doesn work very well and this is why this device fails as a phone. It fact, its a lousy phone and I regret spending the kind of money on it that I did.

hey, I didnt say that I dont apperciate the help. I most certainly do. I was merely venting a frustration about the phone and that was up for DISCUSSION. I suggest learning some comprehension and spelling skills. What the heck is 'regrit'???
I have had no problems establishing three way calls. Things can get weird when one of the other parties disconnects. But that is the way it is with every other phone from verizon that I have had.
I don't see why people have some kind of elevated expectations for this phone. In most aspects it works as any other phone. The voice dialing is improved over most phones. The manually looking up contacts may be a little cumbersome but considering that I actually have all of my outlook contact information at my fingertips I consider this a wash.
The only place where I could agree that this device "fails" as a phone is when you get the must make data mode dormant popup. A tweak has fixed this for outgoing calls but incoming calls will get dumped to voice mail if you are in a non EVDO area. I don't see this as a major problem, I have to be concious of my connection state but the fact that I am getting all of my email real time makes up for this. This is a converged device it is more computer than phone.
If you want help w/ a problem ask..if you want to vent go over to the "I am so sick of this phone" forum.
