Maybe I'm a complete idiot OR (i730)
Ok so here's how it started. A friend I work with was mysteriously talked into buying a Samsung Omnia (OMG!!!) and now doesn't need his i730. So he hands it over to me (HURRAH). With it I get all the software and cables minus one simple cable. The original charging base is missing the USB data cable so no USB for me. So i get it and Factory Reset the entire phone to get it ready for an ESN swap so that I can begin using it on my Verizon account. He said it had trouble before he gave it to me but I had no time to check it out. After the reset I realize it's still running WM2003 (Bummer) and without the data cable there is no hopes for WM5 for me any time soon (sigh) Unless of course I can upgrade without the cable which I dont believe is possible. So here are the issues I am having.
1. When trying to enable the WiFi I click Enable WiFi and then click the Ok button and it just sits there for about 1 or so minutes and then tells me Can not execute WLAN. Please perform a soft reset and try to enable Wi-Fi. And then that little error bubble freezes. The whole time the light at the top of the phone has been blinking green. After that the phone pretty much freezes. So after reading through this forum I see someone post something about a little trick with Bluetooth and disabling the Phone. So I disable the Phone. Start up Bluetooth and then Soft Reset the phone. I try to enable the Wi Fi again and low and behold same error message. Only this time when I click the Ok at the top of the error box it goes away and what do ya know the Wi Fi icon on the Today Screen has gone from disabled to Off. (WOOHOO). So I tap it to turn it on and it asks if I want to. I say yes and wait. And well nothing happens. Every once in a while it will switch to saying on and then after about 15 seconds it will turn back off again. There is no Wireless Manager shortcut I have been able to find so that I can find my router (Linksys WRT54G). So I download and install WiFiFoFum and get it up and running (transferring all files and such through the combination of Bluetooth and SD 2GB card). When it starts its as if the Wifi doesn't even exist but eventually I can get it to find the device WLAN1. But still no scan at all.
2. When I finally monkey around with it forever and get it to say it's connected. I try to start up the Inet or any other web based software and it attempts to dial #777 or ask me to turn off wifi but doesn't ever just go to the page.
All I can say is help me... PLEASE.. I want to throw this thing through the wall. Hope you can help and if I haven't given enough info then just let me know and I'll tell you whatever you need. Thanx in advance.
(Also attempted to install the cab file on here for this phone and got a lot of things going but didn't help with these problems at all.)
