Lower Data Plans... But not for i730????

Just saw this kind of stuff everywhere:

Verizon Unlimited Data Plan NOW $29.99 Per Month (was $45) - SlickDeals.net Forums
Verizon Unlimited Data Plan NOW $29.99 Per Month (was $45) - blackberrys also included

What in the hell??????

Everyone gets a $45 -> $30 drop on their data plans, but not i730 users????

Has anyone been able to call and get this switched up, or this is strictly a hardware based problem??

I'm pretty much about to leave Verizon, and if this cannot be changed, I'm definitely going!

I've got my finger over the button...

Amazon.com: T-Mobile G1 Phone with Google, Black (T-Mobile): Cell Phones & Service

Oh man, the suspense!!! Finding very few reasons to not make the switch, especially since the new plan will be MUCH cheaper... Probably since I'm getting reamed with the $45 plan unfairly...

If anyone knows about the $45/$30 data plan thing for the i730, please post!!

Did you call Verizon? I got the plan switched on my Moto Q a year ago when it first came out no problems at all.

Only problem is, if you want tethering, that jumps from $15 to $30 a month, but PDANet works just fine with the $30 plan when I tried it for curiosity. I just never bought it because I don't need tethring anymore, got free (legit) wi-fi now. Yay.

I didn't but oh well. The T-Mobile plan would still be cheaper than Verizon since text's are not included in Verizon's so I have to pay another $10 for it. In T-Mobile's texts are included in the data plan.

$97 G1 here I come!!

Stuck with full price data plan

So I've been calling/emailling various routes into verizon to find out how to save on the data plan - I don't tether or use push email, so the new plan would be just dandy.

A tech rep was pushing me me to make the change, then he tried. He couldn't find the option available to select for an I-730.

The next route was thorugh our corporate account rep.:

"I just need to make sure you aren't connected to a server for corporate email. Just let me know that this is the case and I'll move you down to the $29.99 (before discount) plan"

Sounded like the sales/marketing guy was going to make it happen - yippe!

Then the answers from verizon itself:

"Wireless number xxx-xxx-xxxx has a Samsung SCH-i730, which does not support the Email & Web for Smartphone feature. This number is eligible for an upgrade. You might want to take a look at the phones that do support this feature."

and upon further probing

"....sent your concerns up to our data sales team for a better answer. The reason is, when they came out with the new plan, it was new in our billing system and set up specifically for current and future data devices. Unfortunately, your device wasn't included in that lineup and therefore our billing system doesn't recognize the plan when adding it to your phone"

So basically it is a choice of verizon's to simply not support older models (it's certainly not that our devices are not capable of email or web browsing - and why was my $40/month considered a current data service - ugh!). So it's move forward - get a new phone and a new 2 year commitment maybe, opposed to providing excellant cusotmer service/satisfaction?

Wow, blast from the past. I got an automated email alert for this thread. Well, you actually went in-depth and tried to find out why they do that. I didn't get that far but it's good to finally see why.
