I tried the i760 and the Touch and neither lasted 30 days... The Omnia seems to be a keeper. But what to do with the i730? It's still one heck of a pda and as long as I can connect through Active sync and wireless networks there are a lot of ways it's still useful.
I'll bet I'm not the only one who would like to completely disable the phone, including it's annoying habit of trying to connect to Verizon's network. Is there any way (registry hack, etc.,) to do that?
Thanks for your response mknollman. I found where you posted those instructions and I appreciate your tact in letting me know. As a Moderator in my Industry's forum I frequently (politely) suggest questions have been asked and answered. As a new guy (sort of) here, it's not always easy to figure out what keywords to search (especially for things like GPS).
I renamed "cdmacsp" to "cdmacspx". I was unable to delete the #777 and #7772 connections. It says a phone number has to be entered. Is there a number I can enter that does nothing. Or would that defeat the purpose for deleting them? I'm confused about what to do next.
I also just discovered the i730 will no longer connect to my wireless home network. It's a pretty simple network using a 10 number authentication key. I tried to search the forum for help about that. After reading How do I get the Wi-Fi option back in Wireless Manager I'm still confused. I don't know if my problem is the way I have wifi "Network Cards" set-up in the i730 or if it's the dialing issue. Perhaps using it as a wifi device is going to be more trouble than it's worth.
By the way, the i730 is brand new (not refurbished). I upgraded to WM5 (not the radio), then set it up according to MRailing's guide including his phone tools cab (but did not do all of his registry hacks). I used it for a few days, then put the i730 in it's box and upgraded to a i760. The i760 wasn't enough of an improvement, so I took it back. My plan was to wait until late Spring when I have more cash flow and purchase an OQO laptop. Then I saw the Omnia...
Truth be known, if I can get the i730 to work with wifi and GPS, and figure out if I can swap SD cards when I want to use it for e-books, the i730 might do everything I want it to do. I'm entertaining thoughts of returning the Omnia...
Odd, I never had an issue deleting connections on the 730 - wierd that you are. Make sure they are not already connected for some reason. Changing the number wont help your cause as it will still try and fail to connect still. Until you get those connection gone, it will keep trying. I will mess withmy old 730 when I get a chance and see what I come up with.
I will say that I havehad nothing but trouble with winmo devices where secured wifi networks are concerned. Sometimes they work just fine, sometimes it takes some work, and sometimes I can never get them to work.
Yes, I did use a BT GPS with my 730. In fact, I have a spare BT receiver. PM me if you are interested in it as I am considering putting it on ebay. It is by Holux and works like a charm.
I agree that the 730 is still a solid contender. I like my 6800, but the 730 is still very viable today.
Well, the Omnia started doing some bizarre things, so I took it back this afternoon. Meantime, the i730 sees the internet and updates my email accounts when it's hooked to my PC. If I can get it to sync with a BT GPS reciever, it will still be a very useful device with no monthly fees...
