Found My Next Phone? - HTC's Touch Pro Going to Verizon

Wow, I have been thinking how nicely equipped and sexy these phones are for a little while now, but dreading the thought of losing the VZW network to get them. Check these specs and tell me they aren't awesome:

HTC's Touch Diamond and Touch Pro Going to Verizon - Together with lots of other new devices - Softpedia

From what I have heard we are looking at late October for the earliest possible release date. I read that Sprint gets it first for at least one month. Looks like I will have to be patient.

I will add that I have been excited like this before about both the 760 and the 6800 and still stuck with the dirty 730 after looking into it, but this time I might jump - don't push me - I'll do it.

What have you guys heard about the Touch Pro?

PS - I guess I won't have to lose the decent network in may area for a nice phone, but I will have to continue to endure the crappy tier 1 customer service and ridiculous data plan costs. I am also interested to see if VZW cripples the GPS or wifi on this handset like they have so many times in the past. Sometimes I hate you VZW - couldn't let the whole post be positive.

Looks nice - I have almost jumped to the 760 a few times... but alas many years later I still have my 730. (Which I have had since the first day of its launch)

Always looking for my next potential partner

If you’re going to spend cash, I would recommend the i900.
The TV out and the 5meg camera is what really sold me. The optional
16 GB package and MMC slot is a bonus. Unfortunately or fortunately
depending on your view on VZW this is a GSM phone that VZW does not
support. I am dumping VZW due to misinformation, incorrect
billing issues, and just plain stupid call center reps. I can’t really say that
I have heard another carrier having a flawless reputation but at this point
VZW has the worst reputation for customer service.
Check out the pros and cons for both units

Yeah, I really like that phone - its not here in the US, yet, correct? Unfortunately, in my area, V$W is the best network... really wish I could move to a newer, lighter phone with better battery life... and I actually like the WM platform... just nothing strong enough to make the switch yet.

Yes, the i900 is here.
I just purchased a Samsung i900 and will be leaving the soon to be extinct
Ver*zon network.
How's this for a micro office; a pair of 3D glasses (50"), stereo BT headset,
a BT virtual keyboard, remote connectivity to my office laptop, and all the files I need on a MMC. It’s nice not having to lug around my laptop, be
away from my office, and still be productive.

Hmm - seen this posted on another thread. I guess I have a different take on this. I understand not wanting to carry around a laptop but now you are carrying around:

-3d glasses
-Stereo BT headset (all fairly bulky)
-BT Virtual keyboard (need flat workspace for projection and sensor?)
-need 5 minutes for setup and connections
-need to protect each of these individual and somewhat fragile pieces.
-Very expensive all together.

I get that this is cool and new, but in my mind not a very realistic setup for "on the go". I have to think that if you are willing to shell out this much cash you should get a Celio Redfly and be done with it.- I just think we are at the "tech for the sake of tech" point with all those peripherals

Also - this thread is about the touch pro and the pros and cons of it Vs. the i730 but I like the "outside the box" viewpoint.

Took a look at the comparison above and wanted to note that it compares the diamond not the Pro. There are some definite differences that just begin with the qwerty keyboard and Micro sd slot - see the article link in the first post. Mostly just trying to think of what I would lose with the switch other than Q2N and the vert slider that I love so much - any other additional negatives anyone?

Just read that the Touch Pro was just approved by the FCC in a CDMA model - so either Sprint or VZW or both will be carrying it. From what I have read Sprint is almost a lock, but VZW is still iffy. Man I hope they pick it up. As stated above Sprint might debut as early as September, but most likely a little later.

@mknollman:
Any new PDA coming to Verizon? While I love my Sam 730, the device is getting old. Surprisingly nobody talks about BB Storm. I know it does not have wi-fi and keyboard.

Well Slorizon had better put something out pretty darn soon. I went to 2 VZW centers in 2 different places this morning and in both places the managers and csrs were hunched over the counters sleeping. And all I saw hanging out on the racks was the same old 9 month old stuff. And when I conked one of them awake with my Q, he said "nothing new, just same old stuff".

The Altell, TMo, ATT and Sprint centers had people around and awake help at least.

Well, as stated above the touch pro is supposed to come soon, but I have not read anything new about it lately.

I just received as an out of warranty FREE replacement ( feel really lucky ) a brand spankin new 6800. So I will be makin the migration over to it. I do have to say that part of me doesn't want to. The good news is I still have a spare 730 in the dresser drawer in case I wanna go back.

I always have my ear to the ground for new cool stuff, but I have no cool "connections" or anything like that to give me inside info. If I read anything that sounds juicy I will try and link it here.

Have loved my i730 since 2005 and it has served me well. My biggest headache with it has been when battery goes dead I lose all contacts , call history, etc and have to sync to get all this back. A pain if you are away from your desktop to sync.

I have envyed the iPhone but don't plan to leave Verizon's network. I love my Garmin and my ipod and have no reason to combine all this on one device. I would like a quality camera though. I don't care about a phone being a lil thick if it has the features I want and an actual slideout keyboard. I tried the blackberry storm in the store but didn't like it. I haven't used the internet on my i730 much because it just hasn't been easy to read yahoo mail and browse which is mainly what i would do. I want a nice user interface for my yahoo and gmail and for web browsing. I am now considering this HTC Touch Pro and the Samsung i900 or Omnia. So far Verizon only has the HTC Pro. Looking forwarding to reading reviews and opinions of other members here.

I have the Samsung Omnia on order (supposed to arrive tomorrow). I debated it versus the Pro, but am going to try it because:

1. I like the Samsung build quality better than HTC (purely based on "playing with HTCs", never owning one.
2. Bigger screen (yeah, lesser resolution...)
3. Lots more memory (8 gig!!!!)
4. wow factor...

I know I will miss the keyboard, but the onscreen looks decent, so I hope it works well...

Folks using i-730:
Going to miss you all. Ordered i-770 Samsung Saga yesterday. Having the convenience of Qwerty key with touch screen, WiFi, Opera browser, CDMA and quad band GSM attracted me and I am confident Saga will satisfy most of my needs. Wish you all a happy and healthy New Year!

If I was going to get an ADDITIONAL Phone besides the i730 it would be either the SPRINT Touch Pro and or Touch HD.

How you liking the Omnia? I couldnt deal with the smaller AND less resolution screen with no hardware qwerty. Looks cool otherwise.
