Removing Programs

Brought a I730 Phone off of ebay. Phone works great. Came with a lot of programs I want to remove. If I go to Settings, Systems Remove programs I see Programs in storage merory. There are a lot more programs in the phone not included here. How do I remove them?

I suggest hard reset. You will want a fresh start with this device anyway so you don't inherit someone else's bugs. If you did this already then the programs that you speak of are the ones bundled in the ROM and are tougher to take out. I guess the only other thing to consider is if you want some but not all of the programs, as a hard reset will leave you with only WM5 (or 2003?), remote control, and MITS.

Which programs do you want to remove? Which do you want to keep?

Piscel Browser for one. Have IE and Omni mini. Don't need three Browsers.

You can't remove Picsel browser. It is part of the ROM. You'd have to be able to load a "cooked" ROM that didn't have it, and I don't believe anyone has successfully cooked a ROM for the i730.

Because it's part of the ROM, it doesn't take up any usable space as long as it isn't running.

It's really great for viewing PDFs imo. I'd keep it, just as a document/image viewer.

O.K.
I went and did it. Did not wait for the reponse, and thought I knew better. Removing Picsel browser from device, windows, Picsel browser folder. I can still see some Picsel browser files, but if I open them up, it will not work. Can I download and install a fresh copy of Picsel browser to repair what I messed up? If not how can I repair it.

Hard reset will restore it...

I'm not sure if what you removed was just shortcuts or not. I don't have a Picsel browser folder in My Device\Windows\. Do you know specifically what you deleted?

You can also search for a copy of Picsel browser here, on the i760 forum, or at xdadevelopers. I don't believe it is available from the programmer for downloading, commercial or otherwise.

Just as it is true on a PC, it is usually never a good idea to just delete program folders. There are a few you can get away with that don't actually install and just run from the .exe but this a a bad practice that will eventually if not immediately make things unstable and also annoying as you will have blind shortcuts w\ no file to reference - not to mention registry issues.

I know. I should know better. Not in the habit of just deleting programs or folders. Also know not to mess with folders in windows. Stupid. Now the question I have is can I install a new copy of Picsel browser, and will it fix what I did, or will I have blind shortcuts w\ no file to reference and registry issues, or should I just do a hard Reset?

Fast fix is hard reset, but u could certainly attempt to remove all the shortcuts from all the menus. As far as reg goes, I have no clue what issues you may have. I guess the biggest thing to stress here is u didn't gain space by doing this, so unless you have put a lot of time into setup on this install go for the hard reset. I will say that I didn't like pooc browser much either at 1st, but it has unexpectedly come in handy more than once.

Yes, you will lose everything. A hard reset will restore it to factory settings with nothing else installed, except what is in safestore.

Keep in mind that if you do a hard reset, you may have to reinstall the daylight savings time update. I don't believe it installs to the ROM.

Installed a fresh copy of Picsel browser that I found. Works great, and looks like it took care of my problem. No more blind shortcuts w\ no file ref. Thanks all.
