Wireless Sync email & calendar

I've been using wireless sync with a POP email account for a couple months now with my i730. I've been doing a lot of research during this time but have not found a solution to my request and hope someone here can help.

I travel a lot with my job and carry my laptop. I would like to have push email service with my POP account while I am traveling but would also like to have my calendar contacts and tasks sync with my pc. It is my understanding that I can't have both. I either have to sync with my PC using the PC Monitor or I have to use push email without calendar and task syncing. The PC monitor works great for calendar, contacts and tasks but when I enable this option, I don't have access to my email when I am traveling with my laptop (which is when I need it most). My big gripe with the over-the-air solution is that it doesn't sync anything, including email, with my PC. So I have to sort through all the emails that I have already looked at on my phone when I log onto my PC.

Anyone have a solution? Surely I am not the only one desiring this functionality.

I would suggest that you remove the POP3 account from Wireless Sync and have your PC retreive the POP3 mail. Then run the Pc Monitor and have that send it to Wireless Sync. That will at least sync everything with the PC, Wireless Sync and the Phone.

Then, you should be able to Activesync with your Laptop or, and I haven't tried this, you might be able to run the PC monitor with the laptop as well. I would be interested if this last part works.

Unless Im not following, I don't think this will help me as I won't be in sync when I have my laptop with me. My goal is to have everything in sync on my laptop and my phone and still have wireless access to email when I am on the road with my laptop. The ideal solution would be to run pc monitor only for calendar, contacts, and tasks and use push for email. This still doesn't allow me to sync email activities but is a good middle ground.

Right, did you try what I said above?....running the PC Monitor on both your Desktop and Laptop and seeing if they both sync with Verizon's Wireless Sync?

If that works then you can sync everything between Wireless Sync, the Desktop and the Phone. Then, with the laptop, sync Wireless Sync between with contacts, notes, etc. Then setup the laptop to also check the email account by itself.

Just to be clear what i am suggesting here is that you do not plug the phone into the pc or laptop. Everything from Wireless Sync is pushed to it.

I currently don't have a pc that is always on. If I new this would work, I would consider getting another pc just to run wireless sync. But as of right now, my laptop is my only PC.

Ok, I understand your issue better now. What you are experiencing is the inherent problem with POP3 mail. Remember that POP3 does not allow sync. You can retrieve the mail and leave it on the server for another device but it does not sync what has been read.

In order to truly do what you want you will need an Exchange Mail account. Or at the very least an IMAP account. There are many solutions out there. I recommend http://www.SherWeb.com

I personally do not use Mobile Outlook because it does not support html emails. Like many others here I use FlexMail and sync that to an IMAP account and do the same with my PC.

Ok so to sync email, I need an exchange server. How about just getting calendar, contacts and tasks synced up? I have tried running PC monitor and only enabling calendar contacts and tasks, but doing that shut off my push email. Is there a way I can get push email from my POP account and use pc monitor for calendar contacts and tasks?

any idea if your "pop account" also lets you retrieve your mail over the IMAP protocol? i'm not an IT guru, but most email providers that I've come across let you retrieve via POP or IMAP.

if you can do IMAP, then definitely do it. Once your laptop and phone are both using IMAP, you'll at least have your email (including read/unread marks, and any folders you specify) all sync'd up on both devices. From there, there are various apps you can run to give you push functionality.

as for your other concerns, unfortunately i don't have any suggestions, but hopefully this will help with at least part of your problem. Good luck!

just get a free GMAIL account which has IMAP. Then forward all your Yahoo email to the Gmail account. Works great.
