If you're talking about upgrading to Windows 2003 Mobile, you may be in for a long wait. I found out the hard way that Verizon no longer supports the i700, so they don't even host the upgrade files anymore. I escalated up to 2nd level management, and they just flat out will not or cannot support it. I was lucky in that when I upgraded to 2003, I guess it was a ROM upgrade, and so when my unit hard reset the other night, it kept the 2003 OS.
I scoured the internet for other mirrors that were still hosting it. One of them is mentioned at least a couple times in these threads, which unfortunately has a corrupt image file. The other mirror I found is dead. I have emailed a lot of people asking for it before I found out I don't need it, so if I get it, I'll definitely send you a copy.
I am about to purchase a WiFi card as well. I think I'm going to splurge the extra $10-15 and get the Wireless G card that does up to 54Mbps. I just got SuperDave's CPU clocking program, which so far rocks. Took me forever and a soft reset to realize you set it from an icon that appears in the lower right corner. D'oh!!
Also getting some sweet apps and maybe a couple games. Had the phone for a while, but took me looking around a lot to realize it's a kick ass little machine. Going to use it properly now!!
