Anyone had a problem with text messaging SPAM? I've complained to Verizon over relatively few messages. Their answer was that they try their best to nip SPAM in the bud but suggest that I implement vtext filters (free service) to fully protect myself. Here are the instructions:
"Vtext is a free service, provided by Verizon Wireless specifically for text messaging. You may schedule alerts, establish messaging groups, filter unwanted text messages from your handset and more. To register for a Vtext account and add a custom filter, please follow the steps we have outlined below. If you have additional questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let us know.
1. Navigate to "http://vtext.com/" and select "Join Up!"
2. Enter your 10 digit mobile number
3. In approximately 30 seconds, you will receive a 10-character, alphanumeric password on your handset. Enter this under step #2 at the Vtext site 4. Enter and re-enter a personal password and click "Save"
5. Click the link at the left that reads "Personalization"
6. Select "Message Blocking".
7. Under the header: "Block Messages From:", select the desired option for both the "Allow Messages sent from the Web?" and "Allow Messages sent from e-Mail?" fields.
8. You may also specify up to 15 individual addresses you wish to have filtered (example:
RICHARD@ANYWHERE.COM,
WWW.SPAM.COM, HOTMAIL.COM, etc) 9. Enter the address(s) in the fields provided and click "Save"
10. You will now see a confirmation message that reads "Your Message Blocking Options Have Been Updated Successfully".
Note: There is no additional charge associated with the Vtext.com account."
All my SPAM was in Spanish, perhaps because I'm in San Antonio, and came from HOTMAIL (apparently).
