Text messaging SPAM

Anyone had a problem with text messaging SPAM? I've complained to Verizon over relatively few messages. Their answer was that they try their best to nip SPAM in the bud but suggest that I implement vtext filters (free service) to fully protect myself. Here are the instructions:

"Vtext is a free service, provided by Verizon Wireless specifically for text messaging. You may schedule alerts, establish messaging groups, filter unwanted text messages from your handset and more. To register for a Vtext account and add a custom filter, please follow the steps we have outlined below. If you have additional questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let us know.

1. Navigate to "http://vtext.com/" and select "Join Up!"
2. Enter your 10 digit mobile number
3. In approximately 30 seconds, you will receive a 10-character, alphanumeric password on your handset. Enter this under step #2 at the Vtext site 4. Enter and re-enter a personal password and click "Save"
5. Click the link at the left that reads "Personalization"
6. Select "Message Blocking".
7. Under the header: "Block Messages From:", select the desired option for both the "Allow Messages sent from the Web?" and "Allow Messages sent from e-Mail?" fields.
8. You may also specify up to 15 individual addresses you wish to have filtered (example: RICHARD@ANYWHERE.COM, WWW.SPAM.COM, HOTMAIL.COM, etc) 9. Enter the address(s) in the fields provided and click "Save"
10. You will now see a confirmation message that reads "Your Message Blocking Options Have Been Updated Successfully".

Note: There is no additional charge associated with the Vtext.com account."

All my SPAM was in Spanish, perhaps because I'm in San Antonio, and came from HOTMAIL (apparently).

"Llame 305 371 7227. Un premio especial para usted."

So they want us to sign up for a filter that you need the service for in the first place. Will people get SMS Spam if they don't have SMS but have a phone that is capable? I personally don't use it at all.

Your kidding? You dont use sms, and you recently used the internet on it for the first time after having the phone for several months?
I think the connected features of the phone are what makes it! In fact, there is nothing like getting an sms that there is trouble with a server or whatnot, connecting in via vpn, troubleshoot and fix problem... all from my phone.

Hehe... I guess different strokes for different folks...

I had SMS for weather and stock updates for mobile web on my T720. No one I work with is big into it and my wife doesn't use it so for me its not the must have app or feature.

The internet part is more that I could never get it to work but once and each time I was somewhere were it wasn't critcal but would have been nice. Well that is because the phone was defective. So now I can use it and its nice.

Perhaps I should be starting another thread, but my only complaint is that I cannot SMS to an email address using the Inbox. I tried MTUX's SideX and PhoneX's SMS module and it allowed me to send to anything immediately - a phone number or SMS - and it worked, but the trial expired and I didn't feel like using it anymore.

Is there another full-screen SMS application that will allow me to send out to any address?
