Car charger red light - for sure charging ?

Have a car charger. Plug into phone. Sometimes have to "jiggle" to get red light of charger lit.

Question: when that light is lit - is it guaranteed that the phone is taking charge ?

Or, does the "charge symbol" on the phone need to pop up ? (that "U" funny looking symbol at the top. Also, what does the blinkling blue light mean ?

Reason: Phone was plugged in for a couple hours. Red light of charger was on. But the phone did not appear to be taking a charge.

I'm wondering if I must have red light on and "U" symbol on phone.

The whole "charging thing" and connectors is my biggest disappointment with this phone.

I am assuming it is one of those USB based car chargers?
Yes, it must say it is charging.
Symbol should be showing that it is charging.
Red Light on the car charger should be ON.
Is this while the engine is running or while it is off?
Some cars donot have power at that outlet while the key is OFF. Yet, when a cable is plugged into the i700 it will say it is charging when it is not really charging. Kent from Macmedia had mentioned this a while back when I asked this very question.
I would suggest to check that outlet to see if you really have power there while the engine is running. Sometimes the fuse that is used to protect that circuit could be blown.
I do agree that the charging of this i700 has also been a very touch & go for me too contacts go bad, they get dirty often, got to clean them with contact cleaner on a regular basis, just a bad design in my opinion but hey its held up for me for three years so far at least the battery life is good in my i700 but geez the XV6600 is horrible, just plain unacceptable.
I hope you get this charging resolved on your unit.
Blinking Blue light is to inform you of a reminder or a task or a message that needs attention.
IF you have to "jiggle" that adapter it seems to me that the cigarette lighter socket is loose or its worn out.

Thanks for comments. It is not a USB charger. Regular cigarette lighter charger. The outlet works and is always "hot", regardless or not key is on.

Seems like the red light was on, outlet hot - looked like charging, but not.

I'll try some contact cleaner.

Have a great day !
