Overclocking settings

Equus, JP, PPCMD, Shack -- can you cut and paste the info out of this and make it a "sticky?"

Well, I have been fooling around with Pocket Hack Master 2004 -- and had been fooling around with v2.45 last spring. It's fun experimenting -- but searching the threads for the settings everyone else has posted has been very tedious.

So . . . I thought I would gather up the settings I've found in various threads and compile them here. Sorry, if I've missed some but the thread titles where you might find them aren't always that obvious.

I'm hoping that others will use this as a repository for overclocking settings and add additional settings to this thread. But, I'd request that we limit posts in this thread ONLY to overclocking settings, and notes pertaining to those settings, so it will be easy for users to find and try different settings.

I've listed the nickname of the poster and the settings they have posted. I've also included their comments where "context" seemed to be helpful.

***************************************

Superdave:
These are the frequencies for the 333 mode.
PXBus - 165.9
MEM/LCD - 165.9
SDRAM - 83
---------------------------------------------------------
Jaderaven:
Xscale Controler has 3 settings:
L (Crystal Frequency to Memory Frequency Multiplier)
M (Memory Frequency to Run Mode Frequency Multiplier)
N (Run Mode Frequency to Turbo Mode Frequency Multiplier)

Setting for 472 (471.86)would then be:
L-32
M-2
N-2.0
(memory frequency at this setting would be 117.96)

2 settings for 500 would be:
(497.66)
L-27
M-2
N-2.5
(memory frequency at this setting would be 99.53)

and
(497.66)
L-45
M-1
N-3
(memory frequency at this setting is 165.89)

I hope this helps
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Also jaderaven:

Advanced xScale Settings L M N, Speed Mhz, Bench Mark, Video, BenchFrames/sec/bps
27 2 1.5 299 941 30.84/422
45 1 2.0 333 1088 39.51/548
32 2 1.5 354 1205 42.08/568
36 2 1.5 398 1264 49.12/659
40 2 1.5 442 823 23.6/286
32 2 2.0 472 1294 35.47/449
.45 2 1.5 499 1827 95.6/853
32 2 2.5 590 1205 50.17/650
45 2 2.5 829 1205 50.28/665
45 2 3.0 998 1283 55.23/698

Notes: I soft booted in-between every benchmark. You can see that 500mhz seems to be the sweet spot for both the regular benchmark and video. All speeds were stable on my i700 except the 1ghz (99 which was semi stable. It ran for a while but froze the phone after about 20 minutes of use. This seemed to happen consistently. I was excited none the less to see that our little phone can run at 1ghz. Yes that is right I said 1 GIGA hertz. Although the benchmark for some reason shows that performance above 500mhz seems to diminish. Perhaps SD can shed some light on these numbers.

also of note is that EVERYTHING flys super fast at 500mhz... even voice command. I think some of the errors people are having with it could low memory and processing speed.

PS... Sorry guys I can't get my collumns to line up right... it is a little hard to read my numbers/results

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Again jaderaven

Set values as follows for 500mhz:
L=45
M=2
N=1.5

------------------------------------------------------------------------

dhale:

Here's my results:

L M N Mhz BenchMark
45 1 2.0 333 1058
32 2 1.5 354 1176
36 2 1.5 398 1294
40 2 1.5 442 1382

I couldn't run anything faster than 442, but it's (442) been running OK so far.

I'm also running some display tweaks:
HKLM/System/GDI/GLYPHCACHE limit= 26624 (26k)
HKLM/System/GWE Animate = 0
HKLM/System/GWE/Menu AniType = 0

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vexamus:

You want a very fast speed to start with? Try:
40L,
4xM,
1.00xr/t

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Abyss:

So far I believe the best setting I have obtain on my i700 running PHM 2004 ver 3.02 is as follows:

CPU 398
RAM 100
PXBus 199
Run Mode T

I believe the rest is scores....
SI 295
MIPS 146
Memory 444

I can't seem to get to the screen to see what L, M, and X values are used for the speeds that were auto listed. I have plugged your values in and have tested it. It pased with the following results:

CPU 590
RAM 147
PXBus 295
Run Mode R

Scores
SI 442
MIPS 217
Memory 667

Now there were a few boxes in the manual setup I could have checked that I didn't.
They were:
Turbo
and
SDRAM Clk = Memory Clk/2

Wow. I've never seen my i700 run so fast!

However it has locked up three times within as little as 2 minutes.

Am now trying the following

L 36
M 4.0
N 1.0

CPU 531
RAM 133
PXBus 265
Run Mode R

Score
SI 399
MIPS 195
Memory 604

Does anyone know the L, M, and N settings for the 333 mode used by SD's AutoStep? I know both my PDA and Phone are stable at that speed. If I can sent PHM to these settings I can tell if it is a speed issus or if it is PHM2004 not playing well with the Phone side of my Samsung i700.

Never mind, found it.

PXBus - 165.9
MEM/LCD - 165.9
SDRAM - 83

I believe this equates to
L 45.0
M 2.0
N 1.0

Jim, et. al.

I am still having problems with Pocket Hack Master 2004 version 3.02. I will do a hard reset (actually several of them) and finally I can get it to work. Then, I load some software on (Pocket Zen Phone, PI, Calligrapher, PhatPad, PhatNote, Mapopolis) and then when I try to access settings, the program freezes on me. It doesn't freeze my i700, but I can't open PHM.

Anyone else with this problem and/or suggestions. I know I asked this already but with your new thread I thought I would try again.

I emailed Anton and I still haven't heard back...

I have the same problem, I hope he can fix it, currently I am now testing Xscaler and it appear to be working fine. If it keeps working I guess iwil have to buy it. I will tell you this the I700 at 472mhz is a much zippier device.

hmmmn, I guess folks didn't read the part of the original post that said
"I'm hoping that others will use this as a repository for overclocking settings and add additional settings to this thread. But, I'd request that we limit posts in this thread ONLY to overclocking settings, and notes pertaining to those settings, so it will be easy for users to find and try different settings.

What would you guys say is the best way to overclock the Samsung i730? The associate at Best Buy who sold me on the Samsung i730, had one that he says was overclocked from 500 to 700 megahertz. I can't seem to find him and would like to know how he did that. Does anyone know? I look forward to hearing from you.

Yes

Yes you can overclock your samsung i730 and what the benefit from doing that is to make it go/process things faster. You'll be able to go to web pages faster as well as bring up programs and pretty much anything else faster.

You have 2 options. You can either acquire Xscaler or Pocket Hack Master. I have both progs, and used them both. I have had quite a few lock-ups with Xscaler, especially when using it in the scaling mode (speed is set by processor demand). I then tried using it in a locked 400MHz mode, and had less lock-ups, but it still frooze my i700. I have since gone back to the Pocket Hack Master. It's been much more reliable for me to use. However, PHM seems a little harder to use. As you must first test various speed (set points). Once the i700 passes the test, those set points are then available on another screen for setting the actual processor speed. I typically only run my PDA at 400MHz, anything faster then that only eats up the battery. Although, I have successfully found set points that will allow me to run at speeds well over 500MHz. But, I do not recommend using these speeds. Both progs can be found at Pocketgear.com or Handango.com. Good luck, GP

Underclocking?

Has anyone tried to underclock the i730 to save battery when usiing Wifi?
Idea would be to maximize Skype use, slowest clock and still smooth conversation would be ideal.

Regards,

Mike
