In WME2003 (as was the case in PPC2002), when you "close" a program, you don't really close it. You just minimize it, like a PC. You have to manually close the program by going to the running programs setting and stop the program. By leaving the program open, it eats up precious memory, and will slow down the processing speed of the i700.
There are several 3rd party apps that will enable you to actually close and stop a program by hitting the "X" or "ok" button. Among these are SPB Pocket Plus, Battery Bar, etc... I highly recommend the first one of the two.
I do recall one thread, where someone mentioned that it takes more battery life to close and open a program rather than minimize and open, but I value processing speed over battery life. And I doubt it improves battery life that much.
