2 QUICK and EASY Questions

1. I'm sure this has been discussed to death, but since I've only been visiting this forum for 2 weeks, I haven't seen mention of it, but what the heck is the deal with the headphone jack. I remember some mention of this when purchasing the unit, but now that I have it, I see what the real deal is. YOU CAN'T USE STANDARD HEADPHONES WITH THE UNIT! What the heck is up with that? Please tell me that there is some kind of an adapter that I can buy so that I can use my own headphones because I can't stand those ear bud type headphones - they always fall out of my ears!

2. When my phone is in my pocket or when I'm making calls, I'm constantly pushing buttons by mistake. In fact, one time I called my girlfriend twice by mistake while my phone was in my pocket. I am REALLY hoping that there is a lock button. Is there?

Talk about being laconic. Regardless, THANK YOU VERY MUCH - I ordered one tonight! How about my other question though, is there a lock button?

Wink Superdave!

Superdave has a keylock program out there for the i700, I believe if you do a search of this forum you'll find it for download.

Thanks for the info, but sounds crazy that you have to use a PROGRAM in order to lock keys on the device. Just about every electronic gadget I own has a lock key - Samsung, what's up?

Wink Not alone..

I agree, it is crazy, but it isn't limited to Samsung. Most PocketPC's in general don't have a keylock feature. I think it's a necsessity, especially in a converged device.

Watch out for that PPCTechs adapter. I'm now on my third.

I wish there were other options out there.

Well, I'm not sure what I can do about it now - I ordered one last night. I don't like to hear that it appears that they aren't built very well, but I guess if there isn't an alternative, I'll take it over nothing. I absolutely can't stand ear bud headphones.

What about the adaptor from PC-Mobile (http://pc-mobile.net/i700.htm)? I have had one for the last few months ,and it has worked flawlessly. And the retractable cable is nice. Now I just have to find headphones with a shorter cable (or learn to solder better).

Man, where were you last night when I needed you? <just kidding> I don't understand what the retractable adapter is but the other one for $6.25 (3.5mm audio adapter) I think would do the trick. Well, let me see if I can cancel my order - probably too late now - oh well.

Man, I'm kicking myself now - I think I jumped the gun BIG time. Looking at Radio Shack online, they have all kinds of adapters for only 3 or 4 bucks. Would this one work?

No...you don't want a standard 3.5 mm audio adaptor. You need an adaptor that is specially made for the i700 with a special connector for the i700 (not 3.5 mm). Also it provides the microphone functionality and button fo answering phone calls. $27.80 is pretty steep, but worth it, in my opinion.

I also originally orderd the one from PPCTechs, but called up the next day before they shipped and cancelled my order.

I'm not concerned with answering calls or any microphone functionality. All I want is a simple, small adapter that will allow me (probably only 3-4 times a month) to watch a tv program or movie that I downloaded on my I700. While I'm watching the program, I'm not concerned so much if I miss a call.
