GPRS is General Packet Radio Service, associated with GSM networks. AT&T Wireless, T-Mobile, Cingular all use GSM and GPRS, while Verizon and Sprint have CDMA networks.
Verizon Wireless has data services on CDMA, called Express Network (144kbps) and Quick2Net (19.2kbps), and they are capable of establishing VPN connections, among other things, once the wireless device is connected to the Internet, much like GPRS.
