Question Internet connection sharing on BlackJack vs 3125?

I have the internet connection sharing working on the Blackjack.

It seems that this option of the windows mobile OS was not installed by HTC on the 3125. Is there any way to add this option to the 3125? Can I copy files from the BlackJack to the 3125 and make some registry edits to make it work?

Thanks,
Rob

Here is what I found. The option is there, it is just different.

Go to Start/Accessories on your
3125. There you'll find Wireless Modem. Run that, select USB for connection
type, hit Menu, then Start.

This is good, but not exactly what I was looking for. There is a program within WM5 called internet connection sharing. At least on my BlackJack there is. When you run this program, it takes over the USB connection and makes the phone a network device that shares it's internet connection. There is not setup, no dialing, it just works and works great.

The way described here, you tell the phone to be a modem and you setup your computer to dial through the phone and get an internet connection.

There are two reasons to use ICS instead of phone as a modem. The first is, at least on my BlackJack, that the phone charges while it is an internet connection. If I use it as a modem it runs the battery dead. The second is that there is no way for the carrier to know that you are tethered to a laptop. I don't think they can the other way, but I'm not sure.

Reading reviews of a few phones, they list ICS as a feature of the phone. I would assume this means that the manufacturer of the phone has the option to install this feature. It seems HTC made the choice that the carrier's would like them to make instead of the one the customers would like them to make.

I am trying to find out if there is a way to fix HTC's poor choice in not installing this feature.

Thanks,
Rob

ICS was added to WM in AKU 3.0+ I believe. It would be Cingular that would ask to remove it, I'm sure HTC doesn't give a rat's @ss what you do with the data connection. Unless there is a ROM upadte for the 3125 eventually, you will have to deal w/wireless modem.

I'm sure you have found your answer by now, but cingular has indeed issued an updated ROM for the 3125. It includes the internet sharing center as well as a few other enhancements. It is on the cingular, I mean ATT site.

I'm using it now, with media net and a pda -- slow but functional.
