It is truly sad that Microsoft, one of the richest companies in the none Universe, still cannot get it right. Every time I connect the phone via USB (none of my computers have BT), the activestink icon in the tray spins (even though mousing over reads, "Connected") and the dialog on the desktop turns white (freezes). And what is with it trying to acquire a network connection? I thought I was plugging in a USB cable.
Samsung i607 - Microsoft Windows Mobile 5
Desktop - Microsoft Windows XP SP2
Notebook - Microsoft Windows XP SP2
All devices - Microsoft Activesync 4.5
Can someone please give me some tips on how to sync my phone with any one of my four computers? I have turned off all firewalls and a/v software. I went so far on one machine to uninstall both the firewall and a/v.
If no one can help with this issue, is there another consumer product available besides from Microsoft that will allow me to sync Outlook 2007 with my phone?
ActiveSync 4.x uses IP over USB for the "network connection" that you see. It is possible that it is your phone and not your computers that are having the problem... have you tried a reset before connecting? A hard reset? (I know, not a good option if you have already installed stuff to your phone, but it is the only way to clear the phone as the culprit.)
The good news about Bluetooth is that it doesn't use IP to connect, and may not trigger the same errors, although I find it harder to use overall. It could be worth purchasing a cheap USB BT dongle to try.
I do not think there are any ActiveSync substitutes that don't rely on ActiveSync itself... such as Intellisync.
Ahhh...IP, network connection. I did the whole reset, reboot, thing on the phone and computers. In fact, to add to my frustration, I can view all the files on my phone from these computers, but it will not sync, effectively reducing 90% of the usefulness of the phone.
Is there a way using the SIM card to copy my contact info to the phone?
Is it possible my router settings may be interfering?
Using simple logic, one at a time I uninstalled my a/v and spyware programs. It appears eTrust Internet Security Suite was blocking script activity for Outlook. Hence, the ability to view files on the device, but not synchronize any data from Outlook.
