Many newbie questions - not familiar with smartphone - Familiar with PPC edition

Hello,

I walked someone through setting up e-mail on their blackjack over the phone but I don't have any hands on experience with this phone. They've asked me to see if I can make it more user friendly.

1 . Is there a firmware update available for the Blackjack?

2. I'm used to using SPB Pocket Plus, is there something like this worth getting for the Blackjack?

3. I use vjcandella as a flashlight app for the 6700 - is there anything for the blackjack?

4. Do I need to install .net or anything like that?

5. Are there any registry hacks you'd recommend? Does PHMRegistry work on the Blackjack?

6. Are there any software essentials you'd recommend besides activesync?

Thanks.

I'm using PHMRegistry. I used it to disable the sent SMS beep/message, and get rid of the startup/shutdown animations. I also used it to change the paths for mail attachments to the storage card. Most of those hacks I think were listed elswhere in this forum.

porfitron, was kind enough to fill me in on the registry editor. So far that is it. If anyone is wondering, I did install WLS for mobile and it worked great!

No firmware updates. I hope this will be an option for us in the future but worry about our current hacks that are in place if we actually update it.

I have read about some plugins that do a couple of these tasks individually but nothing, so far, that multi-tasks like SPB does.

I also use PHM with no problems. I recommend ridding yourself of the open/close animations. I also doubled my application cache. There is a LONG THREAD HERE that has a view good hacks listed. I read through each post to find out a lot of information.

I would think there is no flashlight app or anything like that since there is not a video light like on the 6700.

Well, as for .net, Microsoft .NET CF 2.0 was the one of the first things I installed. I believe it was required for IBM's J9 cab which aided in setting up Gmail's email and map apps. I use the Gmaps but don't really use the Gmail app. I prefer just polling my accounts via pop every 15.

I really like Fizz Weather. A free App that I have found VERY useful is Ilium's Screencapture. It is free.

Thanks.

While I think the camera on the 6700 is a complete waste of space and probably money, the light in invaluable to me.
