activesync 4.2 hanging on "connecting" with Blackjack

I'm trying to help my mom set up her blackjack. We installed Activesync 4.2 on her desktop.

Upon plugging in the Blackjack, it simply says "connecting" forever and never gets past there.

I did some research on the web and users with 4.1 had similar problems that they addressed by disabling their windows or other firewalls.

She's running McAfee on her machine and had the McAfee personal firewall enabled as well as the windows firewall. I disabled both and rebooted and no luck. Same problem.

I checked my network connections and when I clicked on the mobile device there, all the boxes were checked (that was another suggestion to check that I found online).

So, on a whim, I brought over the cable for my PPC Phone (Verizon xv6700 running WM5) and BAM, it connected without any hesitation.

So, what's the deal that the Blackjack won't connect to Activesync yet my XV6700 will????

Any thoughts on what to try? (because if we can't figure this out, the next thing we might "try" is taking it back to Cingular and getting an 8525).

Thanks!

After a LOT of reasearch & trial and error, I finally have the problem solved.

I tried to sync the BJ with 3 different PC's. I tried adding ports and disabling firewalls...

Finally, I found one isolated post in a forum that said they solved the problem with a hard reset. We held our breath and tried it. BAM! We're syncing now.

I thought I'd share in case others come across this problem.

So, now things are going well-- We have MSN syncing to outlook via the MSN Premium outlook connector, then we sync calendar & contacts via USB. We bought HTTPMail and have wireless delivery of MSN web mail to the device's pocket outlook. Finally, we're getting some functionality out of the device!
