John,
You mentioned in one of your posts that you had Voice Command 1.6 running on your Blackjack. I was getting ready to buy it when I found this on the MS website:
Product Specific Support
Samsung BlackJack from Cingular
Voice Command 1.6 bluetooth functionality does not work properly on the Samsung Blackjack. It is not possible to initiate a voice command interaction using the headset, and it is not possible to receive audio announcements through the headset on this device.
Is this consistent with what you see? Is it a big problem for you?
That is exactly right. The Blackjack does not have the "hands-free" profile required for two-way audio, and you cannot initiate a call from any bluetooth device (my headset or my car) and the standard audio will not pass through to the headset or car. Stereo Audio will work via the A2DP Stereo profile, but that's it.
It's not really a big problem for me, as I just pull the Blackjack out of my pocket and tell it to do what I want, like "open Internet Explorer" or "what is my battery level?" and it works just fine. I found the only place that I miss the audio not coming through is with my GPS announcements.
I am hoping that Samsung will see the light and add the capability in an update as it seems to be a big dissatisfier. I think that is odd, considering that just a couple of years ago, nobody could do it and now you would think we are in the stone age without bluetooth audio. I admit, that is one place where the Q and the T-Mobile Dash are head and shoulders above the Blackjack - the bluetooth implementation. From a competitive standpoint, it makes sense.
I agree. I hope a software update will include this feature but I find it very useful in it's current state. I like that I will read my SMS messages out loud to me as well as those metioned by John. It's not that big a deal to just push the hardware button on the device to initiate the call. Again, the additional functionality would be nice but it's worth the asking price to have it on your device without it.

Considering my previous Sony-Ericsson phone could easily handle bluetooth enabled voice commands, I've found it a bit hard to adjust.
The voice recognition in Voice Command 1.6 is really nice, but it is really annoying to me that I cannot initiate the command via my headset. I too am hoping that Samsung/Cingular releases a ROM update that resolves this issue, but I'm not holding my breath.
I just installed VC 1.6 for smartphones on my BlackJack and it does all the dialing and open features but I get no verbal confirmation response. Nor do I recieve answers to the "What's my battery level" and other questions. I have the annoucement settiing to always and have tried setting the Annoucement Routing to all three different settings and no change. Any help would be appreciated..... Thanks

Try turning your speaker volume up using the rocker switch on the left side. It can easily get set down low by accident.
Don't get your hopes up everyone, but I have been trying to hack the Bluetooth stack. I added in a few keys and registery entries, and I am able to get the phone to dial out when I quickly double click my bluetooth headset initiation button. The only caveat is that it seems to only dial the voicemail everytime. I need to play with this more to find out if it is just dialing the first speed dial (voicemail) or if it is dialing the last number called. I am not sure if I will get it to work, but I actually do get the added profile of the Headset along with the hands-free, and the Stereo headset that were the only two coming up during the intial pairing and scans.
Wish me luck in finding some sort of solution (if it is possible). Still need to work on the activesync through bluetooth, as I haven't had much time and haven't gotten i to sync yet (but others have so I know it is possible).

I have tried everything with Voice Command 1.6 and I still do not get any confirmation messages or announcements. Everything is set to "yes" in setup. The speaker works fine for all other applications.
