charging with USB

My blackjack is drained and I connected it to the USB to charge, but it will not charge. The connection status shows nothing cause the phone is turned off. Why won't it charge when the phone is off ?

Any ideas ?
Thanks

USB won't charge a dead battery, only a battery with a certain percentage of a charge remaining. This is true of all Windows Mobile devices.

You will need to plug it into AC or DC power to recharge it.

I also heard somewhere that the USB charge will only work when you're connected via activesync... not sure if this is true, but I read it from a poster on HowardForums. Electronically, I'm not sure why software would make a difference :-/

I was thinking about getting one of those car/home chargers, but it has a USB connection. I dug up a spare RIM BlackBerry USB charger and it still did not work with my Blackjack while plugged directly into an electrical outlet. I guess that other one wouldn't work either. I think i'm just going to get an extra home and a separate car charger. Cellular being my only phone, IMO it's a good investment to have extra chargers.

I use the Boxwave minisync set. With my old i500 I just needed one cable and the various accessories (wall, car, and battery adapter).

When I ordered the set for my BJ they sent two cables - one to use for synching (marked SS) and one for charging (marked SC).

Something is definitely different with BJ charging.

http://www.boxwave.com/products/mini...-i607_2465.htm

You might also want to look at the adapters they make. The versacharger is a combo car/wall adapter unit. They also make separate car, wall and battery units. I have the battery unit too - uses 4 AA batteries for charging when there is no outlet available.

Adapters are at http://www.boxwave.com/products/cate...l_chargers.htm

I keep a versacharger and a battery adapter in my travel bag along with the "SC" cable, which just charges using those adapters. You can take the "SS" cable (charge and synch) as well if you take your laptop with you.
