Hi,
I just discovered a program called BlackChat at
http://sourceforge.net/projects/blackchat/
A free ICQ for Blackberry.
It appears like a way to do free ICQ on a Blackberry 72XX series. Has anyone tried this program -- and how does it compare to
WebMessenger? [Edit: Not bad - it works well, and it has a pretty neat notification system. I wish it also supported MSN too though, like WebMessenger.]
It says this software is designed to be able to run 24/7 in the background. While I personally pay the $4-per-month ($48/yr) WebMessenger (which does AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo), this BlackChat ICQ software works great for people who prefer a free chat application for Blackberries.

Important Note: Requires BES on certain providers. It works for Nextel/Telus users without Blackberry Enterprise Server (just need to configure it properly) It is now possible to get
third party BES/MDS hosting service relatively easily and cheaply if you are on T-Mobile, Cingular, AT&T, Rogers or Bell Mobility. For more information about free or cheap BES/MDS/MDG,
please see this BES/MDS FAQ thread.
