I have the same question. I have the pinout and connector for my car radio. I use the 3/32 headphone jack for speaker and mike but would like to take advantage of the radio mute function. Does anyone know if the 7230 has sends a mute signal?
Shersh seems to have it all connected hands free, but is questioning the use of the radio mute. She is much further than me. Shersh, how is your blackberry connected?

Both the blackberry and car are new to me and I am just working out the solution. Nothing has been installed yet.
I have a wiring diagram for the car radio and know where to purchase a kit that includes the connectors to access the radio's features.
I have several options for mounting the phone without permanently altering the interior. I will probably fabricate or purchase a bracket that attaches via the factory installed radio screws.
I am planning on using the 2.5mm headset cord to provide speaker signal to the car radio and will locate a microphone in the factory position behind a grille in the ceiling of car. I have not determined what the best mike is yet.
I was not going to worry about about power as the blackeberry seems to never run out of power but if necessary I will use the car charger and usb to mini usb cable for power.
The only hitch is that the radio has a feature that mutes the stereo and routes the phone to the front speakers. I would like this to activate automatically when the phone rings but to do so the phone will need to provide a contact closure. I don't know if the blackberry has a mute signal. If not I would need to find a circuit that could do this when the speaker activates. Worst case I can rig a switch to enable this.
I am curious to find out if voice functions are passed through the mini USB port. If so I could do power and voice with one cable.
Very, very ambitious! Nice. I've been waiting for a pre-built solution (if I tried to wire it up, well, call the fire department), but there's nothing out there. I'm not even sure that RIM has published the specifications on what comes in/out of the mini-USB port. I've been asking vendors for a while for a hands-free kit. You are light years ahead of them.

Thanks for the info, sorry about the gender bender.
Your info is the same as that from my installer. He says I may need an amplifier because sound quality to an external mike may not be good through the headphone connection. I will only know when he installs in July (when my new car arrives).
Let me know how yours goes
Regards
Allan
A rather simple solution -
In Europe (and elsewhere I assume), your mobile telephony provider will supply a second (identical) SIM card. The second card can be placed in a normal telephone device, which can then be traditionally mounted in the automobile. This will give easy and inexpensive access to all usual handsfree features, including mike, radio mute etc.
Does anyone know if it is possible to get a twin SIM card in the USA? I asked T mobile and they refused.
I thought about that but I'm determined to be able to use the BB in the car. Today I found an address I was looking for on Anywho.com. It's a great navigation aid.

The launch date should have coincided with the introduction of the phone. The last component for my "phone kit" arrived this morning and the phone goes in this tomorrow! Who has time to wait a couple more months!
