RIM/Facebook announced about a week ago that they have a new native application available now to allow basic Facebook functions in a push fashion. You can read about that
HERE. I think this is a great move to tap the college crowd and get them hooked on their Blackberry before they get out into the workplace. However, it may not be all rosey in the push-Facebook world. The addictive nature of Facebook may be leading to problems for early adopters.
India Times is reporting that some users of Facebook for Blackberry are finding a significant drain on their battery life when using the application. They reported that upon removing the application, their battery life returned to normal. A RIM spokesman from Hong Kong was reported as saying
“We thoroughly tested and reviewed the Facebook application before official announcement of launch. Lots of users are using it everyday. Some may have faced the problem due to older version of software in their handsets. They should go to BlackBerry site and upgrade their version of software.”.
If you have a problem with your battery life while using Facebook for Blackberry, we recommend that you update your Blackberry to the latest version of the software. I assume they are talking about the firmware or OS, since the Facebook application has only been out for a week.
