Summary

So to wrap this up, I'll look at some of the details and give you my final thoughts. Many merchant accounts are very confusing to figure out how much it is really going to cost you to do a transaction because there are many different fees. Other than buying the swiper/printer, there are no startup fees at all, and there is no commitment... you can cancel at any time for no charge. Your monthly flat rate charge is $24.95 which is pretty good, and you pay 1.69% for swiped transactions or 2.2% for keyed transactions, plus 30 cents per transaction. Thes costs are also competitive to other merchant account providers. Transactions are processed daily, and you get the money directly deposited into your business account at the end of each day. Having used other merchant accounts, I can also tell you that the reports you get from Merchant Anywhere are easy to reconcile and understand what happened. The cost of the Pocket Merchant swiper/reader is $299 + $15 for a cable, and the cost of Pocket Spectrum swiper/reader is $399.

Pros
  • Least expensive equipment for wireless transactions
  • Competitive costs for transactions and recurring fees
  • No startup or termination costs
  • Set yourself apart with a professional approach to credit cards
  • Has a cash sales add-on module to allow processiong all transactions

Cons
  • Initial setup of swiper/printer with PDAPhone required
  • Won't work if you can't get a data signal

MerchantAnywhere is used by Mac Tools for all their trucks for several years, so it is proven in a large company environment. But the beauty of it is that a small merchant can have access to mobile credit card processing very easily. I have a photography business where we take pictures at tournaments and print them on-site. Almost without exception, every time I hand my PDAPhone to someone to sign for a credit card transaction, they respond with something like, "WOW, this is so cool... the other guys usually have us handwrite our stuff on the order... this makes me feel so much better!". That is a level of confidence portrayed to your client and it makes your small business look very polished and professional. It also means that you get your money right away and don't have to worry about chasing people down later to fix and error in their writing down their credit card number. I highly recommend Merchant Anywhere.
