Review: EB Slipper Case for the Samsung i700

Ever since Samsung released the i700, many users have been very dissatisfied with the included case. While the existing case allows the phone to be held to one’s ear and used satisfactorily, the only buttons easily accessible are the record button and the volume button. In order to answer the phone, a user must open the magnetic snap, fold the case back, and hit the answer button. The case doesn’t stay open very well so when putting the case down on a flat surface, the top flap closes and the magnetic snap hits the screen.

All in all, the existing case is by far the worst part of the whole i700 package from Samsung. Luckily, there is finally another viable case option available. EB Cases has just released their i700 Slipper ™ case. Made of high quality black Nappa leather, this case fits the i700 like a glove. All buttons are easily accessible, and the easy flip top cover makes the whole unit very easy to use.

The i700 fits nicely within the case. The extended battery fits snugly and there’s just a little wiggle room with the standard battery.

As you can see from the photo, the entire screen is visible while the unit is in the case. You can access all of the buttons along the bottom of the device and there’s a small cut out for the microphone. The interior of the case has two slots for business cards. While you could store credit cards in there, the magnets in the case mean you might want to reconsider storing credit cards within the case.

Under the two business card slots, there are two hidden pockets for SD cards. The slots are slightly difficult to access, but as the case is used, I anticipate the slots will become slightly more accessible.

The belt clip has a different design than most other belt clips currently available. In order to remove the clip, you need to move the lever to the side to release the clip. This makes the clip very secure. It would be very difficult for the device to fall off the clip. Unfortunately, as shown below, the belt clip doesn’t stick up from the top of the device. This has a positive and a negative effect. First, since the clip doesn’t stick up, the device feels very comfortable on your hip. Clips on other cases can stick up so high that they can dig into your waist when you sit down. On the other hand, since the clip is mostly flush with the top of the case, it’s difficult to get your fingers between the case and the clip to help press the clip to remove it from your belt. You can easily get frustrated and try to squeeze the whole device. While this will work, and the device is well protected by the hard inserts in the case, it does make it rather awkward.

Pros
  • Professional look and feel
  • Belt clip sits at a good height, the case won’t rotate on your hip
  • Flip cover is strong enough to cover the screen yet opens easily
  • Side buttons, SD slot, synchronization slot, and stylus are all easily accessible
  • Unique clip design ensures you won’t accidentally release the clip from the nipple

Cons
  • Can’t talk on the phone with the case closed
  • Speakerphone cut outs don’t provide enough sound through the speaker
  • Top of clip sits almost flush with the top of the device, making it hard to remove clip from belt with one hand
  • Camera isn’t quite usable pointed away from the phone while in the case
All in all, I would recommend this case to anyone with an i700, especially if you want to wear your case on your hip. The case is currently available in black only and sells for $47.95 with the clip and $44.95 without the clip.

You can order your Samsung i700 case from EB Case.

If you enter "pdaphonehome" in the promo code when placing your order, you will help support this site!

I have used the EB Slipper with an XDA for the last 9 months and love it. To remove the phone from the clip easily with one hand, I rotate the phone forward (at the top) with my right hand, while simultaneously pushing the button on the clip forward with my thumb. Then slowly pull the phone up when the phone is turned about 90 degrees. This works like a charm.

You can then flip the cover back with your thumb (and a little wrist action). The leather is soft enough that the cover folds right back.

I have also carried credit cards in this case for 9 months and never had a problem, although there are magnets in the cover, so it is possible to wipe out your mag stripes.

another large negative i found to this case is the headset jack hole was not cut long enough in order for the rubber stop to be pulled back easily and hte jack plugged in.

with some struggling it can work but i may have to cut mine open a little bit

i do very much like how the case is very low profile so it does not add much bulk to the phone and when its on my hip on the clip it feels very natural and not overly bulky like my palm used to.

another negative is that i found that hitting the talk button proved to be a little bit of a chalange as the leather is risen all around it so to answer the phone i have to kinda finese my finger to the talk button instead of clumsily hitting the big button like i'm used to.

another concern i had was setting the phone in the charger but what i found was that the case is well built in such a way that the phone comes easily in and out of the case from the top just like the co-pilot.

well theres my 2 cents (btw we need an emoticon for 2 cents)

promo code for i700

I ordered the i700 slip case today and under promo code punched in "pdaphonehome" which by the way doesn't all fit in the described space. After submitting my info, I received an error message that the promo code was not valid.

I wanted to promote pdaphonehome but unfortunately things did not work out for me. Just thought I would let the author of this thread know as well as the moderators.

Thanks, rdgim

I discovered that there are, in effect, three business card slots. Right next to the SD card slots, there is enough room to slide a third card in. I have three in mine, including a credit card - unfortunately for me my card was demagnetized the first day.

Looks like I missed out on the promo code... I ordered it months after reading this review and just now spotted that.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the purchase.

Hey guys, sorry to dig up an old topic but I was looking at cases and these look really nice. My question is, if I get the one with the belt clip, is there a big knob stickin out the back that can be removed if i dont like it? I'd like to try both styles to see which is best for me, but I'm not sure if that big knob comes off. My second question, where is the best place to buy these? Thanks!

I wouldn't describe the "knob" as big - it is about a quarter inch around, and sticks out about a quarter inch. But, it is not removable. The belt clip is removable from the case, but the silver peg remains. I have not found that to be a problem, but that is a personal decision. I own both the EB case and the Vaja case, and much prefer the EB.

As for the best place, just you can buy it directly on the EBCases web site.
