With the multi tasking abilities of the PPC 6700, I wanted to make full use of it while in the car. I have had many “gadget” setups in my Subaru WRX wagon. XMRadio, laptop, GPS, touch screen LCD, carputer. All the various setups took a lot of piecing together, tweaking and frankly usually looked ugly despite best efforts.
The attached images show some past solutions, some complete, others being installed. Having a laptop in the car was great for the navigator, we ran a few road rallies with that setup, streets and trips and a wired GPS. For day to day use it's not practical, or even safe. The indash touch screen LCD, with a laptop stored under the seat also worked well, and looked the cleanest when complete. However, it to was unsafe on the daily commute, too tempting to try to check sigalert.com or the latest gadget blog.
When i received my PPC6700, like many of you, I was determined to get the most out of it, and one of the makeovers it needed was adoption for in car use. Initially I picked up a car mount designed for the iPod that was about the right size for the PPC. While better than the front seat, it’s just not ideal, you cant just slide the phone in, you have to fiddle, and connect up power and audio each time. And at $35 it’s a little ridiculous for a piece of plastic.
This thread will document the effort so far, I am sure many are on the same journey, or are soon to be. I'll try to update it as needed.
