Is this the normal behavior or should I have some sort of indication on my phone screen?
That is normal, but if you want to see some sort of status change, just open up WModem and the connection icon at the top of the screen will change when you connect as if you were using a USB cable.

Hello friends !
this is an OUTstanding thread, and I thank the OP for the detailed instructions.
everything works like a champ.. i have a couple of Q's though, for those that can take a stab at a reply, i'd be appreciative.

I installed the WM6_BT_DUN.cab, to my xv6800. I made the reg tweaks as well.
I created a BT DUN profile on my laptop computer, paired them up, successfully connected, and presto.. am surfing the web (at amazingly fast speeds I might add).

I shortcutted the DUN profile direct to my laptop desktop, and simply have to double click it to log in, and connect.
I don't use the VZAccess Manager at all. But should I be ? or is this just a VZW fluff app so they keep you tied to their proprietary interface etc...
I ask this, because I still do need to use the VZAccess manager to get a successful USB tether connection (although it kicks me off after about a minute -- why ???)....... i'm not sure i care about that though, since the BT works so well and doesn't boot me off...
but this page threw me a little -->
Bluetooth&reg Dial-Up Networking* with VZAccess Manager
My VZAccess manager doesn't detect BT at all, and i don't even have the option to search via bluetooth..

so to my question -- Do I care ?? am i fat and happy just using the created DUN profile i made directly through windows and bypassing the VZAccess manager program altogether?

second question, i can't seem to 'find' the WM6_BT_DUN anywhere on my device.. meaning - there is no icon under 'Programs', i can't find it in 'Settings'.. nowhere..
should there be ? should i expect to see this somewhere? or is it just a background DLL? (it DOES appear in my 'remove programs' list - but that because i installed the actual CAB file itself (assuming)..)

this is truly a hidden gem of a post..

Exclamation

this is Great and all for Verizon users but is there anyone who can point me in the right direction for sprint Mogul tethering without additional software. I am seriously starting to regret upgrading to the 6800.

I did not have the following key in XV6800 registry and I was wondering if this is common. I added it manually and my connection still worked.

WModemDUN

make sure you are in HKLM\Software\OEM\WMODEM
LOCAL MACHINE... not Local USER (HKLU).. common mistake.....

Verizon $15 Acceptance message

After connecting via either USB DUN or Bluetooth DUN, the only page that opens via IE is a message asking if I accept a $15 per month addition to my bill. What the heck?

So, XV6800 users: Is the "free tether" party over?

Can someone answer bigrolltide's question? Has Verizon found a way to detect this workaround?

Well, I have never used the hacks to disable NAI, but with NAI enabled normally, it used to be that if you didn't subscribe to the $15 tethering plan, you got a RAS Authentication Error (691 or something like that) and you had to call VZW to activate the feature to make it go away. Now apparently Verizon has "fixed" that and now allows everybody to access the internet, but re-directs the home page of non-subscribers to their new subscription site where you are "invited" to subscribe.

I would think, with the hacks in place the bypass should still work, since pdaNet still does. Seems only way they could stop pdaNet from working is to stop active sync to pc altogether and I don't think verizon is about to do that.

On my wifes 6800 I went in to do the reg hack, but found that it was already set up- I didnt need to make any changes. She got the phone like the first week or so they came out. Is it possible that this reg hack was not needed for the early phones?

And it works perfect!

This thread still up-to-date?

I just bought a new XV6900 phone from Verizon and I'm going to give this tethered connection "hack" a try.

Has anyone trying this ever been charged for tethering from Verizon using this method?

Thanks in advance!

Nope. I used it a couple weeks ago when the DSL modem got fried without any problems.

PDANet has failed me and I get the $15 page now. I have WM6.1 installed and wondering if I have a setting wrong somewhere. I also have tried Ineternet Connection Sharing via BT and I only get "waiting for network" and never goes.. any suggestions?

Has anyone gotten this working under Linux? For the life of me I can't get the phone to pull a com port via USB when I start Modem Link. I've tried manually forcing the device similiar to the 6700s with modprobe using ipaq and the vendor and device ids from the output of lsusb, but it ends up using uhci_hcd.

Thanks!

-Mike

I've been able to tether via usb for a while now and never had a problem. I tried connecting through bluetooth today for the first time. It connected, but it just goes to the Verizon page that wants you to pay for it. It even does it now when I try it with bluetooth. I checked my registry and they are still set like they should. Anybody have any ideas? I've deleted and uninstalled the bluetooth files that I put on the xv6800 and things should be like they were yesterday.
