Yes, please report back with your next bill to confirm VZW can not see that you are tethering. They have a history of billing users for the additional bandwidth, or even canceling your contract if you go over a certain limit. I used my 6700 to tether my laptop for a few weeks while my DSL wasn't working, and my bill was about $100 higher that month.
I have followed all of the instructions for USB tethering my Xv6800 and it works, so-so, but the binary value for WModemdun reverts back to the original value after disconnect requiring that I reset the value to 0 to reconnect. Any suggestions?
Ok... for those of us who haven't hacked a phone since the XV6600s came out... I need some help.
I used to use the Wmodem and sync disconnect to tether my 6600... I'm on Vista Ult... What regedit tool do I need, where might I find it and what/were is this Modem Link?
Just think of me as a newbie all over again.

PHM or Resco registry editor will work fine. Google is your friend. Modem Link is in the programs section of the phone.

As long as you don't go over 5GB you should be fine. I've tethered with my 6600 and 6700 using WModem and I never had a problem. The key here is they all use Dial Up Networking and connect using the same login as your standard data connection. Given that, and with Multiple NAI disabled, I believe the only way for Verizon to determine where the traffic is coming from is with a deep packet analysis and even then, they would be hard pressed to prove what kind of device it is intended for. I believe if Verizon knows you are tethering, you simply would not be allowed to connect.

Many thanks! After repeated problems with USB Modem's product, (only stayed connected for 60 seconds at a time), I uninstalled USB Modem, took the leap and did the registry edit using Resco editor. First time doing that. Feels good to replace a function (BT DUN) that was intentionally disabled in the phone. The Vista drivers work great even though I'm using XP. I'm getting speeds ranging from approximately 1 Mbps with USB cable EV 4 bars and 250 Kbps using BT DUN with EV lighting but no bars showing. Now I feel as though my new XV6800 is pulling its weight.
Does anybody notice their battery draining ont he phone while teathered via USB I thought it was supposed to keep the phone charged all the way up. MIne has the orange light on and says chraging in teh battery meter thing but it keeps going down slowely as if it werent on the charger at all..

Hope someone else has this problem as well..
I've had it happen with mine too. Used to happen occasionally with my 6600 also. It usually happens when the battery started to get hot. You'll see the orange light start to blink. The best solution is to either put it on a wall charger/cradle or to turn the screen off, turn the phone face down, and take off the battery door. Alternatively, turn it off and remove the battery for a few minutes.
2. Re-pair Phone with PC. (Necessary for BLUETOOTH)
3. Set up a Bluetooth dialup connection on your PC using Bluetooth Modem. Number is #777, user name is your phone number, and password is "vzw" without the quotes. (Necessary for BLUETOOTH)

3. Set up a Bluetooth dialup connection on your PC using Bluetooth Modem. Number is #777, user name is your phone number, and password is "vzw" without the quotes. (Necessary for BLUETOOTH)
4. Make the following registry changes to your Verizon XV6800: (Necessary for BLUETOOTH and USB)
HKLM\Software\OEM\WMODEM
add DWORD "CheckProfile"=0
set DWORD "Multi-NAI"=0
set DWORD "WModemDUN"=0
5. Connect to BT DUN
6. Start Modem Link (Open then select "Start" from the menu) with data disconnected and USB unplugged. (Necessary for USB)
7. Connect USB cable. Windows will automatically download and install the appropriate drivers (you may have to click through some UAC prompts first to confirm). (Necessary for USB)
8. Set up a new dialup connection on your PC using HTC USB Modem. Number is #777, user name is your phone number, and password is "vzw" without the quotes. (Necessary for USB)
9. Connect to USB DUN.
I am going to pick up a XV 6800 later today. Helix139, could you please confirm the above steps are correct. I tried to put all the steps for Bluetooth and USB DUN together.
Helix139, do you have any idea why the EDR portion of the Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR doesn’t work on the XV6800. It doesn’t surprise me that Verizon screwed that up too. That is why I wanted the XV6800 over my XV6700. I wanted the BT DUN to be no different than a Verizon KPC680 ExpressCard in terms of speed. Is there any workaround to this problem?
Thanks Helix139 for sharing your knowledge.
ExpressCard Pros: Fast, inexpensive, less prone to crashing connection.
ExpressCard Cons: $1440.00 over 2 year contract, sticks out of computer, voice incapable, Bright blue light always on (KPC680), have to remove to place laptop in case, fragile.
XV6800 Pros: $1080.00 over 2 year contract (with option of canceling data plan), Voice capable, always carry with you, Wireless tether w/ BT, PDA features.
XV6800 Cons: Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR doesn’t work as advertised resulting in slow BT Connection, prone to crashing.
anyone have any experience setting up bluetooth dun with our phones with a mac? I have a powerbook running 10.5 leopard . I could just install pdanet but I would think I would be able to get around it.
edit: well 1.80 of pdanet doesn't work Maybe the beta will.

Did anyone figure out the 60 second issue? I uninstalled the USB drivers, updated the registry using PHM, rebooted the phone and the PC, installed the drivers, enabled modem link, the modem detected correctly, but when I connect to verizon, I am disconnected in about 30 - 40 seconds.
I have followed all of the steps and seem to have a connection working over Bluetooth.
What I am wondering about is when I use the Bluetooth DUN on the computer - I guess I expected that I would see some sort of change on the screen on the phone to indicate when the connection was active, but I don't see any change at all. Is this the normal behavior or should I have some sort of indication on my phone screen?
