Its funny you mention that. When I use my Sony DS970's they stay connected as long as I am listening to music. They never disconnect.

My plantronics 510 disconnects (or a sleep mode) but it's designed to do that - i believe to save on battery life but as soon as a call comes in, the bt springs back in to life.

Really? Thats interesting and may eplain what I am experiencing. Except for the fact that when I press the button to initiate a voice tag dial it doesnt always reconnect.

Something else, which may tie it back to a headset sleep mode is that the disconnect happens and the reconnect seems to always happen after a system event (new email).

I was unaware of the "sleep mode" of the BT headset. This is my first Plantronics head set. That explains a lot!
Thanks!

Is there a way to disable sleep mode on the Plantronics headset? I haven't noticed this behavior with the Jabra. Nothing on their website about it.

Also, does anyone know it the XV6700 charger works with the XV6800? I know it fits, but sometimes, it doesn't charge the unit. If I plug in the one that came with it, it charges it everytime! Sometimes the 6700 charger will.

Strange. Has anyone else noticed this behavior?

hmmm - I've never tried the 6700 charger with my 6800 since I used an Innodock with the 6700. I do know the car charger works fine though between the 6700 and 6800.

Does your charge light stay on after you unplug it? Sometimes mine does and the only way I can get it off is to reset the device. Sometimes the light doesn't come on at all when plugged in.

Strange...

I had a 6700 and just got the 6800
The model #'s on both wall chargers are the same.
So I assume the car charger would be the same too but I didn't look yet...

The 6700 cradle would work if the port thing was in the right place. I think I will open it up and try to move it over to the right...

I didn't check the model numbers yet either. Just seems strange behavior when plugged into the 6700's charger and not the 6800's.

I'm not running LED killer, but I did do the reg hack to kill the LED's. I thought this might be the issue.

Funny thing is, I submitted a comment to that article with 12 reasons why the XV6800 is better than the iPhone, and magically it never got posted!

Magically? or Tragically?

SOME poor schmuck has bought that friggin' iPhone thinking it's better because of that article! That's TRAGIC!

However, It's kinda like Mac vs. PC. Some poor, misguided peeps think the Macintosh a.k.a. Trashintoss, is a better computer than the PC. For some it probably is...

Batt life seems to be doing well also. I got the phone last thursday and after moderate usage today it's at 40%. I use the web, push email, text, and phone.
I am virtually new to PDA's and VX6800. I just ordered mine today and then noticed this thread. I'm not familiar with the fixes and hacks. Are they needed and easily accessable? Are there any NEED-2-KNOWS prior to going into this phone?

Can someone post a list of all of the fixes and hacks most likely needed for the Verizon VX 6800 for a new user that is not versed on the operation and functionality of this phone yet?

(Again, this will only be my 2nd PDA (Blackberry Pearl 8130) didn't like the size and wanted a full QWERTY keyboard.

There is a link to 6800 hacks on post #105 by rsohne a page back.

First Impression on the 6800.
This is a great power phone. I may be a little bias having had success with the 6700. My only draw back and problem with this phone is the GPS locator has been disabled by verizon, which makes programs like Google maps not locate you on the map. This was stupid on Verizons part as there other phones have this enabled. Though i understand that there may be a fix in the upcoming Rom update. (hope?) For those who don't have this phone yet, either wait for the rom update or do a test comparison(actual phone test) from verzion first before you invest. Aside from the GPS Locator this is still a great phone. I have had this phone for about two weeks now and have put the phone through a heavy program test without doing any hacks or tweaks yet.(I will)

What I did!
I loaded the phone with all of the programs I used on my 6700. All of them ran faster and smoother. My programs you ask?

1. SlingMobile Player> program for streaming my home DVR & Satellite TV on my phone. Video and streaming was faster and smoother on the 6800 vs 6700.

2. PdaNet> program to tether laptop to phone for Internet connection. this program was worth the purchase price as it connected my laptop to the net through my phone in one step flawlessly. (usb or bluetooth) I did not have to tweak, modify or go through a lot of steps just to connect to the net.

3. Memory Maid> program to clean and recover memory used by the phone.
so far this program was more needed by the 6700 than my 6800. Even though the 6800 has more memory, I still see a use for it has it cleans the temp folder and others in one to two steps.

4. WM6 Remote Desktop> remote control my home or work computer! oh yes flawless.

5. Windows Media Player>
watching movies and playing music, again much faster than the 6700.

6. Registry Editors: Kilmist & RegEditCE runs fine, though i haven't changed anything yet.

7. Microsoft game pack as well as a host of other 3rd party game played with no problems.

8. Google Maps & MSN Live worked great, except the GPS locator disabled by Stupid Verizon. (again this really ticks me off.)

9. Pocket Dictionary> great.

10. IM messengers: Palringo, EQO, Agile(cost) and Slick are great. Palringo is beta but very impressive.

11. Pocket Bible

Hardware/Accessories

1. Motorola S9 behind the ear Stereo Bluetooth Headset. I had to mod the 6700 to get these to work. I've tested alot of bluetooth devices. this beats them all, hands down. Flawsless connection. excellent sound and performance especially for my SlingMobile and Windows Media player

2. Extended Battery pack.> needed as the wifi switch consumes battery. And I am on the net alot. watching my tv on the road.(can't go without it).

Overall a great power house device. This phone has been compared alot to the Samung i760. again, I may be bias as I had and loved the 6700. I had a treo and some other pda's and played alot with the i760 at the store. I never liked phones with the number/keypad on the front so that already killed it for me. the 6800 has more memory than the i760, important for me has i use alot of programs.
I would recommend the 6800 after the rom update though, or if the GPS locator is not that important to you.

My grade on a scale of 1 - 5, 5 being Awesome is a 4.5 I Love it and would not trade it yet.

Nice review Geebox- I'll chime in here and say I had some trepidation about switching out from the 6700 to the XV-6800. I will say that after having the device for about 2 weeks and doing some of the registry hack posted that I'm very happy with this device. One is that I don't feel like my pants are going to fall down (unlike with that brick of a 6700) and two is the memory on this thing is very nice to have. I loaded up all my programs from the 6700 and it used to show 4.3 mbs of memory left. I added all the programs onto my 6800 and it show about 20mbs of memory left. It also Downloads internet pages much faster.

The only drawback I hate is that it doesn't have voice command confirmations when dialing through the bluetooth headset but hopefully someone will post a fix for that.

One things for certain - I'm not sending this device back and most likely will keep it for the duration of the two year contract.

I don't understand what the "registry hack" is. What is that used for? Also, I tested a display model out today at the store and when using the touch screen to dial a phone number, there seems to be a hesitation from when I touch the pad until the number appears on the screen. You cannot type the phone number as fast as a normal phone.

Is this a normal hesitation for a touchscreen? Or is there a way to eliminate that slight delay?

Also, can someone direct me to the location to handle the "Speaker/Volume" issue?
