I have to admit I was very disappointed going to the 6800 from the i-760 in the beginning also. I found the 6800 very sluggish compared to the 760. This is what I have done to the phone in the last 3 days to make it a much better phone. I would not go back to the 760 now.

1. Hard reset for some reason cured my sluggish phone.
2. Performance and battery hack. ( improved performance and battery life for me )
3. Paraaudio.csv hack . ( I can hear my phone now )
4. Turned the tone off on the dialer. ( Absolutely no delay on the screen dialer anymore )
5. SPB Phone Suite. ( You need this on any WM phone )
6. HTC On-screen Keyboard Hack

I think the only disappointing thing to me is the quality of the ringer speaker. It is not as good or loud as the 760 and never will be. It is what it is.

All these can be found easily here, PPCGeeks.com or xda-developers.com.

I'm not certain, but pretty sure, that the ROM version designations on the Sprint and Verizon devices are differently designated. The reason I say this is that many of the complaints of the original 2.09 Sprint ROM are not present in the Verizon devices.

As for the choppy bluetooth, the only choppiness (??? ) I've noticed is in the actual phone ring itself prior to answering the call. Once in the call, I have found the audio to be great (I did install the course audiopara.cab hack).

rsohne,

Thanks for your feedback. I was getting a little worried as I am in the process of making the switch to the 6800 from the i760. I wanted to love the i760 so bad but just had to face the fact that it was not the best option for me. The fact the Samsung has moved away from what has become a standard in button placement made this phone hard to use quickly or in the dark, and also hard to use if you switch hands. The side buttons not being flush just doesn't make sense and neither does the phone key placement. Also, my i760 had very bad earpiece and speaker phone quality. That along with the bluetooth issues, the hard time I had holding onto this phone, and some issues I had with the keyboard, I decided to give the 6800 a try. However, if I don't like it, I'll probably try and find myself a stable i730 until the new Treo is delivered.

Ralo

Glad to help. If you do need to go back to the i730 PM me. Mine is in mint shape and about 9 mos old. I would really recommend giving the 6800 a shot. After I did the reset and Cody Performance, battery hack this thing was flying. If you shut the ring tone off to the dialer there is zero lag, which really bugged the crap out of me. Just try the hacks and give it a few days.
As for the single handed I have been messing with Vito Goodwin and FunContact and have to say I am starting to like using the phone with my thumb. I never attached a file here so if all went well it should be at the end of this.

Attached is the zip of all the files that I used to fix my phone.
Attached Files
File Type: zip 6800 Hacks.zip (395.8 KB, 1076 views)

rsohne,

Thanks again for the info. I noticed the slowness and keypad lag at the store while testing out the 6800. This was after I had returned my i760 so I was a little worried. Glad to know there are remedies. But if it doesn't work out for me I definitely be contacting you about your i730.

Thanks

Some of the problems are still there tho, unfortunately. The .NET KB and alarm issues still lingered for me. I ended up installing no2chem's Sprint 2.17-based ROM, and it seems to work a LOT better for me.. not to mention it seems to have WAY better memory management. Highly reccomend it or dcd's rom until Verizon offers us something more recent.

Yeah, the alarm doesn't work for me either. Two days in a row now...

Mogul Software on Verizon XV6800

Hey All,

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question... but there seems to be all kinds of software , hacks and tweaks for the Sprint version of the phone. Is it safe to use all of those on the Verizon XV6800?

Since the Verizon version is so new, I don't see a lot of stuff out there for it. Would the Mogoul version of Opera work on the Verizon version without risking hurting the phone? The Microsoft Live keyboard fixes etc?

Thanx!

Shawn

I've used all the fixes/hacks on my XV6800 with no adverse effects.

Can't wait for Seidio to release the 3500 mAH battery! Should be this coming week!

I have been very pleased with my battery life. I listen to WMP over BT for three hours a day, recieve about 75-100 emails over exchange, surf the net for about half and hour and talk on the phone for 45 minutes and i get about 15 hours before I need to charge. On par with the i760 and about 30% longer than my Treo 700Wx.

I ordered my XV-6800 today online - for some silly reason if you call Verizon they don't give you the new "advanced device" price. The sales rep I talked to quoted me a price of 350.00 (100.00 credit for my NE2 and 50.00 MAIL in rebate). I ordered it online and got a price of 209.00 when all was done.

I'm going to try it out for 30 days and if it doesn't live up to expectations then it's going back. I'm still having a hard time giving up my 6700 (esp since it has a lot of options such as the holsters, cases, extended batteries, VC etc).

I too had a XV6700 and liked it very well. In fact, my current 6700 is only 3 months old! (insurance replacement). I have the Seidio 3500 mAH battery for it and a holster from Verizon. I also used VC 1.6 on it as well. I know what you're talking about when you say you're having a hard time giving it up.

However, my xv6800 is leaps and bounds better! I have a holster for it (from Verizon) and the battery life is o.k. considering I was used to a 3500 mAH battery instead of a 1500. Other than that, I LOVE it!!!

It AIN'T GOING BACK!

Hello all, I'm new to the forum and to the xv6800. I love the phone and I have tried the volume fix, the fine setting and it works great. When i first got the phone the vol was maxed out and it was very difficult to hear callers on other end. Now the vol setting is about 50% and plently loud enough.

Batt life seems to be doing well also. I got the phone last thursday and after moderate usage today it's at 40%. I use the web, push email, text, and phone.

Meaning, you haven't charged the battery SINCE Thursday and it's only down to 40%?

I just got a vx6800 tonight. I traded in my sch-i760 that i had for 2 weeks. I couldnt put up with the i760 bluetooth issues anymore. 2 things i noticed about this vx6800 is 1) i like how the usb charges the phone unlike the i760. BUT i noticed the call volume is much lower on the vx6800 than the i760. Please tell me there is a patch/hack for increasing the volume.. my 6700 was like that also.. I also like the fact of increased memory. there is also a difference in how the vx6800 feels compared to the i760. The i760 felt "heavy duty". Where as the vx6800 feels more fagile. I just hope i dont have the bluetooth issues i had with my i760 and i would really like to find a way to increase call volume.. HELP!!! LOL

When I use my Plantronics Voyager 855 Stereo headset, I noticed that it will disconnect occasionally.

When I use my Jabra JX-10 Series 2, it works perfectly! It's just not stereo!
