So, I have had this phone for about 4-5 days. My initial impressions are just OK.
A lot of my problems might be that I am not used to WM6 (I am a long time palm phone user).
I find it is sluggish and laggy. That there is a lot of hang time between apps.
I also don't like that hitting the 'X' on an app doesn't close it - it minimizes it. But hopefully there is a workaround for that.
The volume is WAY too LOW. I also believe there is a hack for that.
For me - the screen isn't sensitive enough - I find myself pressing way to hard to get it to register - comparitive to the palm.
The on-screen keyboard is comically small. (again I hear there is a better one out there).
I also find it very hard to use one-handed. That I need to either whip out the stylus or open the keyboard.. and again - I hear there are work arounds for that too.
My avail memory even after a soft-reset still seems somewhat small - but it could be because I have been installing and uninstalling a lot of test apps.
The threaded SMS - while very thankful of it - doesn't seem to integrate as well as I would like on this phone. I get multiple notifications on the same txt msg - or sometimes none at all.
Also - for some reason - I am not getting all the emails that come into my yahoo account on my phone - I am not sure why that is or how to fix that at all.
All that being said - I do believe that with some time - and a good deal of patience, I can make this phone work for me... It seems even more hackable than a treo - and I hope that I can eventually work through my issues..
I tried a blackberry 8830 for about 2-3 weeks and HATED it...
and if anyone wants to steer me in the right direction for some fixes on the aforementioned problems - it'd be much appreciated.
Try this hack at the PPC Geeks site. I have only been running it a short while but performance does seem improved.
I'll stand by what I've previously said, so what I'd suggest you do is hard reset the phone. If the problems persist, swap it for a new one. If they don't recur, then either someone was messing with the one they gave you before you got it, or you installed something that causes the problem. If those suggestions don't work for you, then return to the 760.
I finally got somebody at Verizon to listen to my I-760 sob story and they traded it out for the 6800 yesterday. My observations so far compared to the I-760 are that performance is much slower(everything delayed),worse quality bluetooth (static),less sensitive screen(better quality in daylight than the I-760), and definitely less volume in ear and bluetooth. I know you did not have these issues but I am not impressed with this phone. Is the rest of the Verizon community having these problems or do I have a bad phone.
Sprint user's : How is HTC on getting out updates?
You might have a bad phone, i just found that the voice was low, no static but using the new csv file fixed that... now i have to set the volume half way down so that it's not too loud.
The screen sensitive seems to be the same as my i760 - i actually find the screen clearer then the i760 but that's may just be me.
As too the slowness, i have pocket plus, phone suite, weatherpanel, htc plugins and the samsung clock in the main memory of device and i find the unit is really quick - only time i've seen slowness is when i'm ending a call and going back to the today screen.
I saw them take the phone out of the box and I actually set the screen, but if you guys are not finding these problems maybe I do have a bad phone. I am also finding battery life to now be so good. I never got below 50% with the 760 in a whole day. With the 6800 I was at 50% 12 noon with 1 10 minute phone call.
Do you guy's find the phone as fast as the 760? I thought the 760 was very snappy so I do have something to compare it to. I would say my phone is about as fast as the I730 and that is not an exaggeration. I will do a hard reset and try it again and see if its an app but I only have a couple of things loaded.
ebb
Sorry if you think I was putting you on the spot. I just know of you from the 760 and had read your comparison post. I never doubted your review at all. I am just wondering why my user experience is different from the others using this phone.

I had a i760 for two weeks and I'm finding on the whole that that vx6800 seems to be faster but that could just be me.
Thanks..I just did a hard reset and will probably use the phone stock tommorrow. That will be the first upgrade I will try and then report back. Someone else was having the same issues with his phone some posts back.
Do you know what is the current version of firmware for the xv6800?
Ok, I too switched from the i760 to the 6800 and here is a brief comparison;
1) Speed-I find them both to be about the same with a slight advantage to the i760.
2) Build quality-the i760 has a better build quality. The materials alone are a step up. The the 6800 is very solid though but when slid open I can feel the top part of the phone is loose. When shut the 6800 is very solid though. buttons on the 6800 are not as solid as those on the i760 either.
3) Bluetooth-the multiple headset issue from the i760 is gone and that is welcome. A2dp is loud and clear. One thing I have found though is that my plantronics 510 does disconnect and reconnect quite frequently. A little annoying. Overall quality is very good.
4) Keyboards-both of these keyboards have thier strengths and weeknesses. The i760's has a better feel, but you had to mash the buttons pretty good and I had many missed letters. The 6800's is so soft, a strong breeze could register a key stroke. I would say this is a draw.
5) Ergonomics-the 6800 wins here hands down. The dedicated buttons on top make it much easier to navigate around this device. The scroll wheel also a big plus.
6) RAM-As a test I ran WMP through BT, internet explorer, IM+ and did some emails on the6800 an noticed no issues. Available RAM seems to be similar even though the 6800 has seven less mgs of available memory.
7) Storage memory-Wow, what a difference. All the same programs I had 16 mgs of memory left on the i760 and over a hundred left on the 6800. This is just peace of mind of course, but its nice to have no worries over running out of memory. HDSC out of the box. This is a plus in my mind. I can immidiatley get bigger cards without depending on someone doing what Samsung should have done in the first place, put the right drivers on the device.
9) Volume-Out of the box, the samsung wins hands down. The para file from the other posts works very well though, so this is not an issue. Just bafflng why HTC cant get this right.
10) Battery-The standard HTC battery seems to be doing as well as the extended Samsung.
11) Screen-The 6800 IMHO is much better. That squishyness is gone and its just as responsive. The samsung's might have been a touch brighter.
12) Size-The 6800 is half an inch shorter than the i760. Its just as thick and witht he extended battery on the i760, it actually seems a tad lighter. I like the 6800's form factor more than the i760. Subjective of course.
13) Slingplayer-thought I would mention that slingplayer does work in landscape mode off the bat, which is nice.
14) Voice command-Using the included voice command with the 6800 is not bad, but I much more prefer MSVC. Voice tags work ok, but I already forgot which names I have tagged. Much better to be able to use your entire contacts.
15) Signal Strength-While not an issue, the i760 showed more bars than does the 6800.
Overall, I am happy with the 6800 and glad I made the switch.

I used that para file and that helped very much on the volume. One thing I notice that was strange. When I was in the \windows\startup directory I noticed a file called cm_guardian(no idea what it was). After the hard reset it was not there. On ppcgeeks site they said that file was notorious for memory leaks and started to wonder why my phone was so slow. After the hard reset the phone has remained fast. Does that file get loaded with any app? Go figure.
I am a newbie to PDA phones and I just picked up the XV6800. So far looks to be working great, I just have a question about ring tones.
How do I download new ringtones to my phone? I think that I copy mp3 files and use those but I am not sure if I can use my itunes from my ipod?
Any help on how to get some songs on my phone would be aprreciated. Thanks
You have a folder under your documents, called ringtones, any mp3 / wma file you want can be put there and used as a ringtone but be warned, the bigger the file, the longer it takes to ring, so if you had a 1mg ringtone, the phone will be already ringing on the other persons phone before you hear your ringtone, maybe 2 or 3 rings.
I try and if my ringtones down to 20 seconds, and between 300 - 600k.

Good review dude. I wonder what Verizon is thinking now that all the i760's are coming back? If they'd have released the 6800 sooner....

Just got my verizon 6800 really like everything but the volume! It really bad. I have read you can do a hack and fix it but I am not very technically. Any software that would help? Thanks
It works really good! i actually prefer to use the unit to answer calls now instead of my bt headset like at home etc
Here is the link to fix the issue...

Read that entire post, it completely explains what to do, even if you are not technical - if you have a problem, reply in that post and i'm sure someone will help you quickly
Only real problem I see so far is trying to get Voice Command to understand what I am saying over the bluetooth headset!
Other than that, I'm REALLY PLEASED with this phone!
