I just spent some time reading numerous threads how the 6800 performs with Slingbox. I saw several negative comments about how the 6800 didn't play the video very well, and those who previously had a 6700 seemed to say Slingbox worked better with it.
I was all set to go out and buy either the basic Slingbox, but now I'm uncertain whether I want to spend the money if the video quality isn't very good on the 6800.
Slingbox definitely worked better with my 6700 than on the 6800 but its still usable on the 6800. The issues I see on the 6800 are a minor sync issue between audio and video (not too big of a concern for me since I use it mainly to watch live sports) but would still like that problem corrected. Also, whenever I put the slingplayer in fullscreen mode, the video gets jerky and I need to revert back to the windowed mode to get smooth video (windowed mode video is perfect, crisp and clear, getting 600+kbps/30fps) . Other people on this forum have said full-screen works fine for them so maybe its just something on my 6800 that is causing it. Bottom line though is that slingbox works sufficiently on the 6800 to the point where its definitely more than usable, just not quite as well as on the 6700 (way better than SprintTV IMO).
the question I need to answer for myself is whether I want to spend the money on the Slingbox Solo ($179.00 I believe) for "usable" viewing. I guess it is better than what I'm getting now (no viewing), but I'm not sure I need it that bad.
If you can find the Slingbox "Classic" online (ebay?), that will get the same job done for less money and give you the ability to control your cable/satellite box if you ever wanted to.
I was hoping to control my DVR also so that I could watch recorded programs as well. I also have HD. I assume that the Classic doesn't do that? I really don't know what the Classic does or how it compares to the AV, the Solo, or the Pro.
So I haven't looked at the various Slingboxes in a while but it looks like you can control your cable box with the Solo (any of the current Slingboxes will do that as well as the discontinued Classic) and that includes controlling your DVR.
Think of the "Classic" as Slingbox SOLO but with a coaxial cable input and without the component video/HD inputs/support. And instead of having separate RCA A/V jacks like the Slingbox SOLO, Classic uses a combined A/V port that you split into the separate jacks with the included cable (so make sure if you buy the Classic you get those cables, there's two of them). Best way to make the comparison is just to simply google it and see for yourself. The slingmedia website also does a good job of describing the differences between their various current boxes.
Finally, none of the boxes can stream HD but the SOLO and PRO allow you to input (and pass through) HD sources and that does result in better streaming video quality.
I have a slingbox AV, and it works perfect. Changing to Full Screen is ok, depending on my signal strenth. Works really good though, and very enjoyable, no complaints here.
What's funny is I saw a few of those videos on youtube, specifically the one that dealt strictly with slingbox where the T.V. was also playing in the background.
Can you expand on what you mean by "full screen is ok." Anytime I hear ok I picture someone who could be happier, but they'll survive. Not really a good thing in my book.
"Could Be Happier"..... I watch slingplayer mostly on my train commute... great pic while watching it in the player, when watching in full screen pic gets a little choppy. There are a couple threads on the sling forum about driver issues (which sling is working on) and in my commute case I belive it's lower bandwidth and tower handoffs.
Watching in full screen while stationary with 3+ bars the pic is fine........
I really like it, watching right now, full screen 3 bars.... crystal clear pic...
Anyone tried Slingbox on the xv6800 yet? If so, how did it turn out? If I am considering TV on my device is there any other service I should consider? And to watch TV on your phone dDoes it just eat up your battery?
I have it installed. Works pretty well so far. Have not checked battery life as I have used it mostly to set my cable or TVIO recorders.
Joplin, huh? You are just down the road from me. I have been considering doing this. There are different versions of the slingbox available, do you know which I would most likely want? Is there a monthly fee to forward the signal to your phone and if so how much?
I have slingbox and watched it with the new upgrade. didn't notice any difference in the battery life. but it is a better picture with the upgrade. not choppy. and no it is a one time precessing fee for the mobile payment

Well I was specifically asking about for teh xv6800 and Verizon but your response certainly helps. So all you have to do is buy the slingbox unit? There is not fee to send it to your mobile device whatsoever? (Outside of fees in regards to your phone for the internet connectino obviously)

there are actually several threads on the slingbox in this forum. if you just use the search tool and search for "slingbox" you should have no trouble finding then. lot more information in those threads than what is in this thread.
