Microsoft Office Mobile 6.1 Update

Hi there everybody,

I just found this on Microsoft's site. According to the page they added support for Office 2007's Open XML formatted documents and couple more things.

EDIT: Microsoft took it down, this is the RapidShare link.

I have it installed on my Mogul and now I can open those Open XML based files created by Office 2007. Quite painless process. Make sure you download the right language (OfficeMobile_Licensed_0409_US.msi).

Is this an update to Office 2007 Mobile 6.1 that we already have installed from XDA-DEV, or is this the stand alone Office 2007 Mobile for the people still using Office Mobile 2003? It's seems pretty big to be just an update and not the complete Office product

****! I took the gamble and decided it was the entire Office Mobile 2007 install and uninstalled the 6.1 from XDA-DEV I had installed and installed this one thinking it was better to run the official MS one, WRONG! This one does NOT include OneNote!

I may yet stick with it though because I don't use OneNote and I have a bit more available memory on boot by a meg or so than with the other 6.1 from XDA-DEV's. Plus I'd like to think that this official MS one has less compatibility issues that may arise, I dunno...

If you don't use One Note, why do you say ***! lol... is there any other disadvantage besides that one that you've noticed?

Nope! Go for it!

I guess I was just bugged I was getting something less from something official than I was from the hacked one. I'd think since we have WM6 Pro devices, that in a few ROM updates from HTC, we will eventually get Office Mobile 2007 Pro too...

Well personally I still think you made the right choice by going with the official release. If I'm not mistaken (and I totally could be), I think the latest version of One Note is available as a separate download.

Hmm looks like they took it down. I do have it on my computer and I'll try to have it uploaded to some sharing site later tonight.

This is a desktop install right? Did you happen to see if there was a cab install?

gentlemen,

im not familiar with this program. does it replace the entire Microsoft programs in the 68, such as outlook, excel, etc..? or does it only enhance those programs.. OR is it a separate thing all together. pardon the ignorant questions...

Yes this is MSI desktop installation, which was only option provided by Microsoft.

I think it will update the ones in the Mogul, since the original ones are in the ROM, these updates simply "covers" the original one and I did not see any different but added support for Open XML format.

For those interested, I extracted the installer file and there are versions for WM6 Smartphone, WM6 PPC and WM5 PPC.

I uploaded the WM5 and WM6 PPC cab file versions.

I just added One Note to a Moto Q9m and there is no search capability??
Is this also true for the WM6 smart phone?

How do you guys search for personal information synchronized to your computer?

I just came from Treo with Info Select.

One big Problem - it forces "Office Mobile" to be in the Start Menu. Anyone else notice that? Workaround?
