Actually, those dialer skins from Neonstorm on that link are the easiest to adapt to this dialer because it is also for the Touch dialer and has the same layout. I have never skinned anything before, but from thatlink I was able to make an adapted skin for Paul's dialer (it was my first "skin", although all credit should go to Neonstorm of xda-developers).
Just take his zip files, extract the files and take the .png files that correlate to the dialer background and progress background. Copy/cut the end button and call log button and save them as separate .png files. Take these 4 files, and save them as Dialer_BkgdP.png, Progress_BkgdP.png, Clog_BtnUp_Port.png, and Erase_BtnUp_Port.png respectively and drop them into the device root folder \Phoneskin (may want to back that folder up first), overwrite and soft reset. Go to the above post and find out how to make the digits "invisible" and follow the instructions. Once you are comfortable with that, you can do other parts to the skin like how the button looks when pressed, but i just leave them alone and it doesn't look bad.

here are my results for BlueMatte to get you started.

Hopefully it will inspire others to "skin" and share.

all you need to do is erase the pngs that have the specific numbers and #,* in them. copy the rest to /phoneskin directory, except for indialer_ls and indialer_ps which are copied to the windows directory. and reboot

I read that post and got confused @%*&^%$

Am I right to say to change the textFlags under HKLM|Security|Phone|Skin|Dialer|Portrait|VerbButton|textFlags to 1024 or ??

I don't seem to see minorflags/majorflags and not sure what value to use if I did find them.

Thanks for any help!
Mark

change TextFlags to 1024 (decimal) or 400 (hex)
In HKLM\Security\Phone\Skin\Dialer\Portrait\dialbutton, you new to create new DWORD entry MajorFlags and MinorFlags. give them value of 1024 also.

Excellent, that worked. Thanks!

Do you know how to change the color of the text used for call status, i.e. showing "Last Call", phone# dialed, etc?

Thanks again,
Mark

From your earlier post:
In Call (Progress) page text color:
HKLM\Security\Phone\Skin\Progress\Portrait\VerbButton\textColor

So I changed this value to blue. However, it changes the text on the in-progress buttons. I'm looking to change the text above the buttons where it shows "Connected: (310)555-1212"

That's the setting I'm looking for.
Any help much appreciated!
Mark

I tried these and they don't seem to work for me. Were you guessing on what they should be or am I missing something (again)

Thanks!

Paul, don't even know if its something you can do. But would it possible for you to add the dialogs (22500 and 22507) for the progress screen to phcanhtc.dll? I opened up tapres.dll.0409.mui, just to take a look around, and the buttons for the progress screens are small, and not even spaced out properly. I know that you're super busy, but maybe something for the longterm?

well i recompiled phcanhtc with the addition of 22500, 22506, 22507, & 22523. Got it to sign. But no dice (although I did change the landscape dial buttons to 78x35px. easier to skin now.) Can't manipulate the progress screen. bahh back to the drawing board

i was trying to make a skin using icons instead of text for the progress screen. however, there is a little problem. The buttons changes function when you go from during a phone call to hanging up. The "speaker phone" button becomes "call history" and the "mute" button becomes "save". Howver, the icons are just embedded into the background picture and so it doesn't change.

Is there a way to have a different Progress background image for during a call and after hanging up?

How does the touch dialer handle this?

jimm98ys smart dialer is for gsm phones. also imo its ugly. you can just replace some bmps in the windows directory to change the smart dialer. and you can also change the colors of the text and highlighting of the smart dialer.
look for any file that begins with indialer. copy them to your hardrive and viola.
