yet another newbie question for the folks at Freedom.
Am I to understand that I do not need to install any software for my i730/i760 to use this GPS? Everyone is mentioning they used Google maps/Yahoo?
Please help, I want to buy one for these at the promo price
this has been discussed in this thread but you do need some type of gps software.. i.e. tom tom, telenav, yahoo to go, live search, google maps...
Yep you need a program, I have Tomtom and Iguidance, for me I like Tomtom a little better it seems to be a little more accurate for my area both can be found pretty easy to try out
A lot of people like google and live which are both okay too but use a data connection as well.
Personally I prefer Tomtom, besides great accuracy and super easy interface it has a great voice announce that you can get a bunch of cool voices for (celeberties and movie/tv characters).

While I wait for Chris to respond with her PayPal info, I went to IGuidance web site and the software costs $109!, TomTom looks about the same....
What is the least expensive software to run the Freedom GPS?
(yes, I'm new to GPS)
Or if your morals get in the way you can use Google map or live search they are free, there is also a freeware project somewhere I can't remember much about it though.
Yes, I'm here. It was a national holiday here in the UK yesterday!
The offer ends on the 31st August. if you send me your email address, i can email you a paypal button before the 31st August. My email is chris @freedominput.com.
As I learn more about GPS and the software I realize that I'm going to need to allocate 1gig on my 2gig card for maps!! Does everyone here dedicate that much for map software? I'm gonna have to delete some of my CHER music....

Some of the nav programs allow you to choose how many maps you load onto your device. For instance, iGuidance 3.0 lets you load just one state or just a given radius of 75 miles. I think someone said iG 4.0 is all-or-nothing map-wise, however.

TomTom ate up 95% of my 1Gb, so I bought the 4Gb from Verizon.

I have 4.0 but havent used it yet, but I do use IG 3.0
In IG 3.0 it's really nice if space concerns you, because you use "maploader" from your pc. It lets you make and load a custom map from your PC, you can choose whatever states you want or you can make a city map with whatever radius around the city you want.
The single states are around 30 -70 megs it seems, and you can put as many in as you want. So with that storage is no problem.
The current Tomtom US and Canada is around 900 and comes as one, but I thought I saw a smaller file floating around.
IG 3.0 has more options and tweaks than TT it seems, but TT has better voices way better looking 3D map and seems easier, but both are great I switch back and forth all the time. These are just my opinions, everybody has there reasons for what they like best.
So if space is an issue definetly get IG 3.0, but this is going OT, probably best to star a GPS Software thread if you have more questions.

The Tomtom North America Map version is 1.4 gb. I'm transferring it to my Storage card as we speak. I'd rather have that the US and Canada version b/c it is more detailed. I want as many POI's as possible. Still have around 2.3 gb to play with. That's plenty.
