i have only tested this thing in a sitting car (long story as to why im in a sitting car) and i have only used "WLS" (credit to lucas!) and the "from gps location" or whatever it says.. so it works. but if i am not doing anything with the gps...meaning if im not getting any maps or driving (which i have not done with it yet in over a week i have had this thing)
it seems the BT connection drops on the unit and the BT light goes steady lit. is this normal?
I have been reading on this forum for the last couple of days since I became interested in the Freedom mini GPS Bluetooth receiver. I actually saw it on Ebay previously and after reading Chris's comments on how it's imppossible for that guy to have 1000 in stock I decided to contact him and ask him about his "stock". Today I noticed that his listing was removed from Ebay...
Question for those of you that have a Nokia N73: Have you been succesfully using the Freedom mini GPS Bluetooth receiver with Tom Tom 6 on the N73?
I just received my unit today and had it up and running within minutes. Works great! Thanks so much for the great offer and speedy shipping Chris!
Okay, I take that back. Now my unit is completely dead. I have no indication lights at all anymore. Plugging it into a power source doesn't display any lights now. Did my unit die after just 7 hours of posession? God, I hope not...
Chris??? What should I do?

what were you doing when it stopped? did you turn it off and then once you turned it on it didnt light up? or did it just go dead while on...?
I was using it all day with my Mogul just fine. Had charged it the ride home from work using the supplied cig/usb cable.
I then successfully paired it with my fiancee's Samsung Blackjack and I think it died when I fired up WLS on her device and tried to center the map based on GPS location. Ever since...it seems like it won't turn on. I know the battery isn't dead...it should have had almost a full charge at the point of pairing it with her Blackjack...
I'm bummed.

In WLS if you click on "maps" then go to menu and click on "center on GPS" what happens?
The process on the HTC touch is:
1) Turn GPS unit on - Blue light will be flashing and Orange light will start out solid (on cold start)
2) On the PPC click Start ,Settings and then click the Connections tab.
3) Click on the Bluetooth icon and on the Devices tab click add new device.
4) When it finishes Select the GPS20C and Click next, enter the Passcode which is 1234 and click next again.
5) When it comes up with partnership settings make sure you tick the box next to "Serial Port" and click finish.
6) Click on the "COM Ports" tab and click on "New Outgoing Port"
7) Select the GPS20C from the list and click Next Select an available Port (remember what one it is), Untick the Secure Connection.
9) Click Finish
10) Open WLS Click on Menu and Click Settings.
11) Under GPS Port Select whatever port you set up then click done.
12) Click on "Map", Then go to Menu and "Center on GPS". If all is working ok you you see a Red arrow appear on the screen.
If you see a Grey arrow then it is still looking for satellites. Check the GPS unit, if the orange light is flashing then it means it has a satellite lock. If it is solid orange then it is still searching.
What version of WLS are you using. If it is an older one try updating it.
in external GPS, leave the tabs to NONE and UNCHECK the tab that says something to the effect of managing gps...
THEN go to the map, center on GPS check box. BT light should start blinking twice per second... it will be hard to tell with the orange light going as well but you will notice the change in the light status....
Still no luck. I am curious how others got it to work. Just looks like I have been doomed from the beginning! lol. 20 days to get the receiver and now I cannot hook it up.
In external GPS I have none, none, and 56700 baud, with the tab managing the GPS UNCHECKED.
In Bluetooth I have the GPS20C in the first screen. Click on it and I have serial port CHECKED. Under Mode I have Turn on Blue tooth CHECKED and make this device visible to others UNCHECKED. On the com ports tab I have GPS20C (COM2) and then another line that says new outgoing port. Security tab I have Authentification (passkey) required UNCHECKED.
EDIT: Ok, I got it to work somehow. Didn't change anything except for the fact that I left the bluetooth settings open and the opened WLS and it worked. Then it didn't work for a little bit and I turned the GPS on and off and it worked again. Will be testing a bit tomorrow and will keep anyone informed of little things that might have caused this [I guess if it doesn't work you can try to keep the settings tab open]. Thanks to all (especially Marctronixx) for the help.

yeah if you dont use the freedom for a while it will go into BT standby (solid blue light not blinking) then you have to turn it off and back on in order to get it to discover mode.
i have "allow other to see me " checked in bt tab just as one hurdle i dont have to worry about. i still require devices discovering the phone to have the key and i dont have any private info on the phone so im not worried if someone tries to sniff me out...
yeah i think that manage gps thing is not needed since most of us are using one program to access it at a time anyway so i left it unchecked. i was able to get yahoo to go beta 2.0 to use the gps but im not sure if its due to the manage tab being unchecked or what... i need to do more testing but have not had a chance to do so yet...
* I was inside my house next to a window & thought I should have been getting a signal
* I turned my GPS on before starting TomTom & turning on Bluetooth. Things seem to go smoother if you start everything on the device first and then power up the GPS.
* TomTom will say "no device found" even after you turn the GPS on, until the GPS has finished the boot process, so be patient.
* If it continues to say "no device found", then you should check to make sure that the advice from others is followed, regarding the global GPS settings. Program port on mine is none, and so is the hardware port. I have left "Manage GPS Automatically" unchecked. At one point I did change the baud rate to 57000. I'm not sure if changing it to something else would no cause it to break.
TomTom is so cool on this that I find myself walking around the city just to watch it hehe
In case anyone was wondering, I did finally get my GPS receiver.
Yes I was wondering. I hoped you might send me an email.
Outr technicians are not at work now until Tuesday (it is a bank holiday here in the UK on Monday) but if you send us your phone number, I will get paul to call you on Tuesday and help you out if you are still having problems.
