Is the battery in this unit user replaceable or does it require shipping back to Freedom for service?

The Freedom Mini GPS Receiver comes with a mini USB cable so that you can recharge the battery whenever you want to.

The Tomtom North America Map version is 1.4 gb.
Which version of maps do you have? Mine is 6.75.1409, and takes up a little less than a gig. I thought I had all the POI's and the latest maps available.

I think he means when the battery life decreases drastically from use over time.

So I guess to answer that question...by that time, you can buy a new one if you please.

What are the benifits of a mini GPS receiver vs. one that goes in your car? I am new to all this technology and I am trying to determine if this is something I need or just want b/c you all make it sound good?

the only difference is that its smaller and you can carry it around easier than conventional portable units. you dont NEED it if you dont use GPS much, if you have it in your car. you STILL need mapping software whereas standalone units do not (they have it preloaded).

with the freedom you have the ..ahem.. freedom
to pair it with most BT enabled phones and go walking around town with ease.

i have GPS in the cars but i purchased this anyway just to have. i keep it on a lanyard and just throw it over the rearview mirror as i have more than one car and putting it on one key ring is not convenient for me..

I have a gps in my car, a standalone gps, and I still bought a freedom mini. Why? Sometimes, you might be out of town on a trip in somebody else's car and you need directions. VERY convenient. I always have my phone on me. Now if we just had the Kaiser we would have been set already.

GPS Pairing

Some concepts that will help those of U having trouble
connecting to the BT GPS:

1) WM6 has a cool feature found in Settings>System>External GPS
It’s similar to Franson GPSgate in concept; a GPS server. U should
be able to run several GPS apps all at once—in theory.

2) First problem is: Some applications don’t play well with it;

3) Second problem is: “External GPS” captures the GPS and other apps
then appear to not be able to connect to the GPS.

4) So disabling “External GPS” is a solution We do this by selecting:
External GPS>Programs> GPS Program Port (none) and
External GPS>Hardware> GPS HW port (none).

5) Then because the GPS setup may be hosed, we re-pair the GPS with
com port 0 by: COMM Settings> BT>Settings> hold down
the GPS line & delete; If it won’t delete, try a soft reset first;
then Add New Device, locate the GPS, turn security off, and
assign it to COM port 0.

That should allow apps to connect to the GPS on port 0 one at a time
just like they always did in earlier WM versions.

I actually had problem directly connect to GPS device using google map. I only got it working using external GPS setting on WM6. It's weird.

I setup COM for GPS, then Google just keep on complaining no GPS available (this is with external GPS all set to none). I make COM for external GPS, setup another COM for application access. Voila, Google Map I simply select "windows settings" and it worked.

I just took the Freedom mini on a long road trip. My complaint is that the bluetooth range isn't that great. When I first started the trip, i kept on getting a signal and then losing it. I thought the Mini didn't have a clear view of the sky. At first, I left it in the pocket in the drivers door(You know there is a little pocket where you can hold onto to close the door. I had my phone set on top of the middle armrest. I would keep connecting and disconnecting, so I put the mini on the dash. Same problem. Then, i finally figured out the units were too far apart and I was losing the connect b/w bluetooth. I left both of the units next to each other right under the radio. I didn't have a problem after that.

Is the poor bluetooth range in the mini a design choice to save battery life? I have no idea, but I know that my BT 2.0 headphones can work across a room. This was only about 3 ft from driver door to center console and it wouldn't work.
