htc touch vs spb mobile shell

I have seen the touch, very impressive but I am using spb mobile shell.

In your opinion, which one is better?

Now I am seeing many who use the touch here on this board, I am using windows mobile 5 for my p4000 (with telus) and the .cab files don't do much. Is there a wm5 version of these cab files for Pocket PC's that are still running wm5?

Now i saw the touch feature that has the spinning menu (like Iphone)... can we get that on this phone? If so how!?

The main quesiton is with spb mobile shell, i like it but i do notice it goes a little bit slow. Anyone else experience slowness on this? I've had the 6700 and 6600...i'll be HONEST the 6600 is faster then BOTH! i love that phone, a true powerhouse...the beast i used to call it! lol memories... but this 6800 is pretty good.

Shell was definitely slowing my 6700 down so I haven't even bothered with it on my 6800. When they get a newer version that doesn't cause slow downs, I'll reinstall.

Nope, I'll wait until it is "right" for our phones and not just something that works. I don't want to introduce any issues such as memory leaks into the system and having Today screen access to all that stuff isn't imperative for me.

Hammons might work on it after he (and Kokkos) gets the Touch dialer all set and if not, I'll just not use it.

I'm the first to jump on any flaws in our PPC devices. But I must say I am very impressed with mobile shell, and it runs lightning fast on my device.

The Mogul overall is a slow device, but I find by using memmaid reclaimRAM feature it keeps it running fast.

the HTC Touch is a hacked version for the 68 whereas shell is made for this type of device and you get support from the company that makes shell. you do not get support from sprint or htc when running the touch version on the 68. if these particular points matter to you then stick with shell.

if you dont care about that (i mean pdaphonehome.com is the best when it comes to support, just ask sprint and verizon) then i think the touch is a very good alternative. its smaller and looks clean on the 68s screen. shell is a hog and MUST startup first since it takes over your today screen so you could encounter some quirkiness with it at times. shell and touch offer you the same thing essentially but shell does have a little more features and its shareware, touch is free.

you will get varying degrees of opinions on which one to use (this is like the sprint vs verizon threads... many opinions....) so i recommend you just try them both and see which one YOU prefer.

my personal opinions that will further erode this discussion...

i was using shell first on the 68 then i saw the touch hacks appear. once i saw hoe great they looked i dumped my registered copy of shell and installed the touch network of programs. i like how clean they look on the 68. they are smaller than shell. shell used up a lot of memory and i dont like that in a program, especially when memory is precious as it is in the 68.

spine doc has a system (using memmaid) to reclaim memory which does work but you dont need to do that when running the touch...

clear as mud now?

[offtopic]Is the reclaim just like the "FreeUpRam" in SKTools? SK basically tells all running programs to release and claimed Ram, compacts "heaps" and does some other things that usually give me back 2-3mg. I have to actively execute this feature with SKtools, is that the case with Memaid?[/offtopic]

Well maybe I'll have to backup and give Shell a second chance.

Marctronixx, can you put your own pics behind the Touch today plugin and are you seeing any issues using it?

What I dont like about Touch is that you cannot embed new tabs into it (or has that changed)? Im also leery of any hacked app like that after having the troubles I did with the Touch dialer.

I might give the Touch interface a chance though when I get past my laziness and install the new Mogul ROM.

BTW yes memmaid reclaimRAM is like the SKtools one.

Hey can someone post a link to the Touch plugin? I did a search and could not find it. Is it the same as the HTC 6 button plugin?
