Keyboard Problem - Not Flush

alright, so here is the deal. i came from the 6600 to the 6700 to the 700wx to a blackberry and now to the mogul. other than the memory leak, i love it. but there is a major design problem with the mogul.

when i first got the phone, when i slid the keyboard out and looked at the keys from the profile view, the keys on the left hand side are sticking up. it looks like the adhesive that is used to keep the keys down is not sticking. well i figured it was not a huge deal. when i had the phone powered off, i could push them down and they would stay for a couple hours. then invariably they would pop up again. they still work and the keyboard still slides in and out, but they are not flush.

so i email ecare with the problem and they told me to swap it out at the store. so i bring it in today and show them the problem and they agree that it is a defective handset and swap it for me. well the lady gives me the new handset and tries to hurry me out of the store. i slide it open, and the same problem! i am not the type of person to let something go, so i showed it to her. am i supposed to spend this much money on a phone that has a problem and be ok with it? well i told her i would not accept that phone and asked her if she could go in the back and check the other phones to see if there were any that werent like this. she took me in the back room and proceeded to open up 10 brand new boxes. every handset had this problem!

now i may be picky and anal about my phones, but someone else must have noticed this. i took a replacement handset and told them i would be back once the second gen came out and this problem was fixed. in the whole thing, i was able to get the new rom on the handset, but it just sucks knowing that i will have to bring this one back at some point.

to make it worse, i was walking out and i heard the tech say to her, "well we can just box this phone up and glue the board down and sell it as a new unit." i guess that is a tribute to how i take care of my phones, but scared me for the person who buys my old phone under the guise that it is new.

anyone else see this with their keyboard?

Pete

Yep, mine has the same issue. At first I thought it was a design feature to help you find those keys but I think not. I was going to let it go but I have noticed that the OK and the Tab keys are start to get rub marks on them. Too early for that kind of thing. I may try to trade it out at a store, maybe I'll get one that is better? Heck I'd be willing to try and slip a little glue under there myself but my fear of botching up the keyboard is killing my sense of adventure

Or maybe you'll get someone else's re-glued phone.

I noticed the same thing and if it gets any worse on mine I'll go trade it in as well. We pay too much for these things to have the damn keys coming up.

well here is my suggestion. if you have the older firmware and want the new one, then go for it. i dont see any difference in the bluetooth, but you are going to get tons of people that say they do. so ymmv on that one. no other real changes i have found.

i will say this. when the lady went in the back the first time to mess with the new phone, i had mine at the desk all by myself (of course with the cam behind me). well i took the opportunity to pull up the left hand side way off the plastic. there doesnt seem to be any exposed circuitry under there or anything that would get damaged if you do decide to glue it on a little bit. i was considering it, and in retrospect, i should have tried it before i traded mine in.

and you should have seen this sprint lady trying to program my phone. she almost broke all the tabs off the battery cover trying to get it in. she said, "i have never seen this phone before or even worked with it." hahahaha. i was cringing when she was cranking away on my brand new phone, to the point that i had to take it out of her hands and show her how to do something. here is the best part though. i told her i wanted both battery covers because i thought she had damaged mine. and, she took out my memory card and threw it in the box with the new phone, so now i have two!

oh well, design flaw for sure. hopefully they will fix it under a year...

Went to The Sprint Store and got my phone replaced due to keyboard buttons on the lower left not flushed. Their demos shows it also. They can't say no to a defect.
